Anyway, Pentax MX with SMC-A 50mm f1.4, between f8 and f11, shutter at 1/500 I think... the camera meter was basically confirming sunny 16...

That sailboat looks like it's about 35 feet long. A big head sail or spinnaker. I'd be struggling too without a winch handle for those last few inches.
