I really do prefer to shoot in colour, but for economical reasons, most of my medium format work is in black and white. Took a chance on pushing Tri-X 400 to 1600. Somehow I did not ruin the roll by spooling it poorly (I use the metal spools and I am clumsy and they are unforgiving). Only one frame had the little half-moons on it and the shot was bad anyways. Otherwise a perfect roll...development-wise, anyways.

I posted some of these in the medium format thread already so I'll just post one here:

I think I'll shoot all my Tri-X like this now. Been looking to take commissioned portraits and I think people would be happy with how funky this looks...I don't have a business degree, mind.

Very nice shots, excellent digitisation. I remember that arch from my visit to Vienna a few years back - it provides very good light for photography.

For some reason Pentax did not make more versions of this focal length back in the film era.
This focal length was one of my favorites when I was shooting with digital Nikons.
I have re-discovered it again...
Everyone moved to 100mm instead of 105mm, I'm not sure why but it can't be a great difference.

Very nice. I've been on the lookout for a decently-priced Minolta 100mm for some time but they seem to be extremely rare. The best I've seen are the 100mm f/4 macros, which are slower than I'd like and still a bit on the expensive side. Minolta 85mm lenses go for crazy money, probably even more than the MF Pentax 85mms.

Thanks ... I lucked out on my acquisition of the 100/2.5 as it was the best part of a cheap camera kit bag purchase. I am also trying to find a reasonably priced 85, but that's kind of challenging to say the least ... and I missed a few months ago a MD 85 that went for 65€ at a Bordeaux B&M store (Panajou - Page accueil panajou ) ... it sold a day or two after its Internet listing on their store site and just hours before I called ... rats.

Fascinating. Especially your explanation regarding your duplication setup. Makes me want to start saving up for a similar outfit. I've been happy with my 24.3mp NEX 7 and 55mm f/2.8 Micro Nikkor AIs, because I'm able to resolve even Kodachrome grain. But yours would suggest that there's even something more and better to be had.

I've known for years about just how sharp Pentax lenses can be so it doesn't surprise me at all you were using Pentax primes for those shots.
Thanks again. I do hope that some day soon I get around to posting a detailed explanation of my duplicating process in the Film Processing, Scanning, and Darkroom subforum. If you are able to resolve Kodachrome grain and there is no pronounced falloff towards the corners I think you are doing fine (but something better is always to be had). I would have loved to test the old Apo-Rodagon D 75mm f/4 1:1 lens that was designed for slide duping but I could not get my hands on one here in Austria.

Just a few more hints: for B&W negs I am using just the green channel in order to get rid of the (comparatively small) lateral CA of the DFA 50mm Macro. At f/9 I'm already getting some diffraction but not too much and I have less issues with film flatness (I'm using an old film holder from a Durst enlarger, one side with anti-Newton glass, one side glassless). For colour work I found that the illumination does make a difference: with a Kaiser Slimlite Plano LED light box I'm getting better colours than with the Gepe light box with fluorescent tubes I used before.

Traitor! Heretic! In order to be forgiven for such a sin, you should give us the address of your secondhand shop...

(To be serious for a moment: very good shots.)

Just received another roll from the shop - developed and scanned. Buildings in Fremantle WA.

MX with M50 1.7 T-Max 100 - following comments from last roll (same shop) I have put all these through the B&W preset in Photoshop.

Working The Lines...

T-Max Developer 1:4 7 Minutes
Epson Perfection V550 Photo

I am still testing both the camera and film. I think I have finally found a MF camera small enough
for traveling and a "walk around". Also, this film seems to give me the speed, contrast and grain that pleases me.

This is an older image from 2013 that I recently posted in the "alphabet game" thread, but I thought you BW film peeps might appreciate it too. Agfa APX 100 film, Pentax KM, no idea which lens, something wide-ish and probably a K-series.

The BC Parliament Building in 2009. A rescan upgrade to a 16 bit grayscale workflow.

Hi, how do you find the focal length of the Wi? Do you use the Wi for portraits etc, too? I have a GA645Zi (zoom) and sometimes I'd like to have a bit more on the low end. I think about exchanging the Zi with a Wi...

The Artist

I’m waiting at a train station. The man in the photo sees my camera and starts a conversation with me. He says he’s an artist. And he was very passionate about his work which he gave me some deep insight into the kind of art he does.

His paint brushes are those spray cans you see in the photo and his canvas is trains and public structures. So I stood there with mixed emotions. Do I admire his passion and presumably gifted talent or as a free-loading jerk defacing private and public property?

I'd probably be my typical smartass self and ask him, "Huh, how's the money in that?"
