Thanks, Tuco. I was just messing with my M42 Takumar f3.5 28mm I use on my Praktica MTL3 on a newly-purchased (original Asahi) M42-PK adaptor. It's a nice lens but I find I have to set the meter reading in 'manual', flip to 'auto' to focus, and try not to knock the focus ring as I flip back to 'manual'. It's just how it is with that type of arrangement.

As it happened I took the pic at f5.6 which allowed me to pull back and forth until I got her eye in focus with the lens set at 1.4'. It helps if they're hungry and want fed!

I agree, that not having automatic aperture actuation is tedious to the max. It might be just as easy to leave the slider in the "Manual" position, particularly with f/5.6 (two clicks from wide-open).

While we tend to remember on “modern” innovations like autofocus or “A” mode lenses, we tend to forget some of the early SLR innovations like auto aperture and open aperture metering—until you try to adapt lenses from one system to the next, and you realize how useful they were.

I tried to leave it in 'manual' but one of the focussing semicircles was blacked out. Not so bad on a W/A lens, where it's f8 marked in red to go. I remember the old Helios lenses where they had an 'open / close' ring on the front. We're spoiled with open-aperture metering.

From yesterday's stroll in Poitiers center ... Rollei RPX 100 via a Canonet QL17. Home developed last night in Caffenol CH for 15 minutes ... with scans via Epson V600 and minor tweaks in Lr4.

Ekfe remains a dust magnet. Had to clone so much out of this.

Not certain on the dev times on this one. I think I may try stand-developing the next roll, as I've seen some results from it that I liked.

Spotmatic II.
Auto Chinon 55mm f1.7.
Efke KB100 in Rodinal 1:12 for ~7 minutes. (Basically, whatever the inside of the box suggested.)

A shot from 2011 that I developed and scanned recently. Expired Tri-X with a lot of grain. I wish that I didn't get the fence in the shot though
I think the fence makes it....

Shot at 50... was the film pulled a stop, or developed normally for 100? (I'm guessing "normal" since you didn't mention it.)

Gorgeous detail.

Thank you.
Developed normally for 100. The film expired in 2011 so I experimented with over exposing by a stop and then developing at box speed. Conclusion is that the film hasn't seemed to have lost significant speed, however I like the different tonality when over exposed by a stop.

I was so convinced that the fence detracted however you guys all seem to agree that the opposite is true.

Well a landscape, IMO, can be too desolate. The inclusion of even a little bit of something like a fence can really make it.

Would be really meta if you actually used those chemicals in the picture...but then again, probably wouldn't turn out very well.
