Hello,

Sorry for the flood of pics. These are the test results after taking the 1957 AP for a spin.

1957 Asahi Pentax "AP"
Takumar 55 f2.2 preset
Kodak T-Max 400 film (Expired in 2013 but always stored in the fridge in a black plastic bag)

-Downloaded commercial scans
-Negatives in transit
-Will eventually scan again on my own
-I had the K-01 as meter but most were shot with sunny 16
-Most shot between f16 and f8
-Shutter speeds were all from the High speed dial (50, 100, 200 or 500)

The owner of this motorcycle was taking pictures of it. I asked if I could and he proudly agreed.

I'm happy
What do you think?

Thanks,
Ismael

Can participants in this forum recommend a scanner (so that I can use my film cameras a little more often)? Many thanks!

Mostly, I get low res scans done by my lab. I don't bother with the prints any more. With a little tweaking in Lightroom, they are fine for low res on screen use.

For high res images, use your digital camera and a macro lens. There are several options available for holding film flat (Lomography have a magnetic system, there is also the pixllatr, cameradactyl's mongoose and Negative Supply's [somewhat pricey] system). If you have a tablet, use the Lightbox app as a, err, Lightbox (do read the 1 star reviews, they are hilarious). As I already had a camera, a macro lens, a copystand and a tablet, this is quite an economical way to do this.

I personally recommend something from the Epson "V" -line of flatbeds (with transparency adaptors, for scanning film).

The price and model number goes up with basically the size of the transparency scan width. I've had the v600, bought refurb directly from Epson at ~50% discount from 'new', for a few years. It does two 35-mm strips, or one MF (2-1/4") strip at a go.

Flatness is an ongoing issue as the film holder isn't particularly good, but works ok with reasonably flat negs (you can purchase 3d-party solutions, which I haven't tried).

That, and keeping it dust free are the biggest hassles, but it generally yields 'pretty good' scans IMO.

Swift1 plays these scanners like a stradivarius ... the rest of us just do our best.

The cascade at Brocket Park is actually a dam which creates the lake in front of the house. It is part of the Park designed by Capability Brown. The dam is hidden from view from the house by the Palladian bridge. The park is now a golf course and the hall a conference centre.

Both shots, Pentax LX, Ilford FP4 Plus, scans by the lab.

Finally finished off a roll I've had sitting in my Holga for who knows how many months. This is one of the better results.

Holga 120N.

I've been using the Epson V-line for a few years now.. From the V300 up to the V800 for my 4x5 scans. I don't think there's better multifunctional flatbed on the market for me atm.
