What's it worth?

I've come across an Super Program for sale with an a50 1:1.4, Takumar 1:4.5 80~200mm, Also a flash unit, all the manuals, camera case, flash case, and a camera bag. Not a scratch on it. I have no desire to shoot film but I'd LOVE that 50 1:1.4 though, for my K-x. He's asking $200 and won't sell me just the 50... He's just about right if you go by the reviews on this sight, the Tak zoom isn't worth much... The value here (for me) is in the 50. It is a fair price, don't get me wrong, but I love a good deal just like the next guy. I guess my question is what could I sell the remainder of the kit (camera, tak zoom, flash, bag... etc) for? I also have an m50 1:1.7 that I could throw on the camera to sell it too if the a50 is as good/better (it should be).

Thanks,
Chris

In my opinion, $200 is too much to pay if you only intend to use that A lens. Also you may find it softer than the M 1.7

Not sure I would bother with that.
If you are patient enough you can probably get an FA/F 50mm in 1.4 or 1.7 for 250 or 300 here in the marketplace. It's a couple extra dollars, but you'll save that money because you won't have the hassle and headache of getting rid of the equipment you really don't want.

Or, if you really want the A version of the lens instead of an autofocus version buy it for $150 at KEH:

Pentax Manual Focus 50 F1.4 SMC A (49) 35MM SLR MANUAL FOCUS STANDARD ANGLE LENS - KEH.com

- Sam

(I have done exactly what you are thinking: bought a whole bunch of stuff just to get a 50/1.4 and guess what ... I've not yet overcome my laziness and still have a bunch of gear lying around that I never sold off)

Although the Super Program (Program A) is an outstanding camera, you can usually find good clean bodies out there for under $100. The flash is a throw in, and the 50mm 1.4 Tak is worth about $60. The zoom being worth a touch less.

From what I've read, the 1.7 is a better lense for a DSLR. (this coming from a strictly film shooter)

Flash, bag, tak etc essentially worthless. Might get $40 for it on ebay with the body. Is that Tak a k-mount or m42? Might be a good M42 adapter included which is worth $30 by itself.

As noted the A 50 can be bought for $150 if you watch KEH and ebay.

So it is likely a fair price if you want to go to the trouble of selling and shipping all the other stuff. I would pass and watch for the lens alone as noted above unless you are in to selling stuff.

OK, let's say the A50 F/1.4 is worth $150 to you.

The Super Program is fun to have. If you have kids, it's a great thing to teach them how SLR works (a body with removable prism is better, but you just can't have it all). IMHO, it's worth $30 for just the fun factor.

The flash? What's the model of the flash? If it is a Pentax AF280T, it's worth $50.

And you have the benefit of trying things out before buying.

So $200 may not a bad deal.

I think it's a good deal. I owned a Super A, which I understand is the U.S. version of it. The A1.4 is also a great lens...so on their own, I'd reckon they're worth having & if the flash is the Pentax 280, well that is a marvellous little unit, & would be an added bonus.
Cheers, Pickles.

Thanks guys, I was on the fence about this but I think I'll pass. The 50 is only worth about $60 to me (I know I'm cheap, ask my wife). If I was interested in film I'd do it but I barely have enough time to shoot digital, never mind the perils of film, I'd love to I just don't see it happening. I'll see if I can find out what the mysterious flash unit is and maybe offer him less money... So anyone want a Super Program kit for $200?? Or a kit minus an a50 1:1.4 for $150? I inquired about the flash model and if there is any room on his asking price.

The Pentax-A 50/1.4 is worth about $100 USD

The Super A is worth about $50 USD, exc (needing seals)

The Tak bayonet zoom is not to be considered in the price

Ditto on the flash unless one of the more desirable Pentax models

$150 USD would be my offer for the full package.
