I'm puzzled by this comment. Probably three quarters of my film cameras have been serviced. It isn't expensive, it isn't difficult, and a well serviced, mechanical body will be good to go for years. I would much, much prefer to support camera technicians by having them service my mechanical bodies, than to buy a bunch of redundant plastic bodies expecting them to fail.
I appreciate using a well honed mechanical marvel can be a joy to behold for many (myself included), however not all electronic bodies are plastic or flimsy. Here in the UK, it's hard to find good camera techs who can do the necessary specialist work - it may not be expensive but as the good ones retire one by one, it gets harder & harder. I had an LX repaired and a KX rebuilt by the last remaining Pentax specialist in the UK before he semi-retired, not cheap but worth it.

If there were more repair options available, I'd support them, but they're dwindling (I'd get my P6x7 & P67 CLA'd immediately). I bought my M4 knowing I'd likely be able to get it serviced in the UK/Europe longer than any other manufacturer. I have various bits of gear that need attention, but can't find anybody decent, who's prepared to take the work on.

Johnha......I have used miles whithead and he has been good with all the stuff I have sent him. He’s not quick but he is reasonably priced and I am never in a hurry anyway.

The reliance on DX coding isn't really an issue unless you're rolling your own in bulk.
There are a fair number of pre-rolled film stocks available that aren’t DX coded—Foma and Ferrania come to mind, but I’m sure there are others. So to me, overriding DX (or no DX at all) is a requirement for me for any camera.

I like the Pentax Super A / Super Program the best as it can use the full capabilities of Pentax A lenses, has all four exposure modes (P, Tv, Av, M, X, B), and can do TTL flash. The size is also very compact and the black version looks particularly nice.

I can't tell anyone which Pentax SLR is best, just why I got mine

I was looking to see how my FA Limiteds and my other film era lenses looked as originally planned

In the past couple of months I actually have acquired three Pentax SLRs

the first was the Z 1

Pentax Z-1 / PZ-1 - Pentax Autofocus Film SLRs - Pentax Camera Reviews and Specifications

then the ME Super [ one which my dad used ] and the ME II winder

and finally I found a Program Super at Wolfe's Camera here in Topeka KS at price I couldn't pass up

so far I have put 2 rolls of color and 1 roll of b/w through the Super Program but haven't had any developed yet

I've got a MX, a ME-S and a Z1. in that order.

I became lasy and use my MX as second unit, with a different kind of film, such as 400 asa B&W or colour slides when the ME has more standards films.

Then came the Z1, but I kept the MX. easy to use, strong, robust as a stone.
the MX need more time to 'perfect' the picture. the DoF lever is not easy to find with a winder who helps to keep this small thing in your hand…
the best idea of the MX was the little prism in the top of the viewer that shows the apperture ring on the lens directly in the viewer.

my very first picture with the Z1 vas a juvenile dolphin, at about 6 in the Morning, gently swimming around our boat in Maldive, just at 1 meter from me.
Everybody onboard was sleeping. I slowly get in my cabin in order to get my camera, go back to the deck, but the 'bip' of the "good focus" afraid the dolphin and I could never take such a picture…

The Z1 is a perfect body, but the MX is a must have when you are not in the hurry.
Now I'm rather dealing with DSLR, but I wont leave my 3 SLR
