Ok, not to dredge this back up but after looking at your pics and comparing with the exploded diagram in the service manual it appears the shutter release assembly does completely come apart somehow.
And thanks to this:
eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices
I now have something to tear into and figure things out. Not thrilled about $20 shipping (international) but the $9 buy it now price was right, so for $29 I have an awful lot of irreplaceable parts for my favorite camera now.
Oh and when (not if) that sonofabitching little check ball thing manages to escape here is an easy source for a replacement.
Amazon.com: Ball Bearings, 1.5mm Package of 5: Home Improvement I'll tell you how they fit when they arrive. Also got the 3 pack chinese spanner wrench set from same seller too so I'll see how that is.
And that stupid rubber cap on the wind lever is stuck, i'm ripping it trying to get it off, someone may have glued it when it kept falling off or something but it doesn't look like it. (EDIT: got it off, looks like it was glued in the past)
Also does anyone have a cap on their bottom for the winder? Mine never did that I recall.
Years of use have left my Super Program looking like it was owned by national geographic magazine (there was actually rust and aluminum corrosion) so since I am sentimentally retarded about this particular camera I will be using my slightly smashed parts camera to fix as necessary.
EDIT: for the record I wouldn't wreck a good super program but the ebay one is fully functional with a smashed top body
