Funny noise from Electro Spotmatic

I have been using my Electro Spotmatic for some time now, and the light meter has been working fine, but now it is acting strange.

1. It eats the battery
2. When pressing the shutter button partly down to get a light reading, there is a squeeking sound from the top of the camera.

What on earth could this be? Can this be a result of the low battery level?

Please note, this is an upgraded Electro Spotmatic, not the first version with the known trouble in the wire harness.

Is the squeak a mechanical one or is it more like an oscillating sound much like a sound you would hear from a flash?
Is the squeak only while in Automatic?
Does it seem to squeak when the needle is in motion?

Do you have an actual Electro Spotmatic or is it an ES? In other words this https://www.pentaxforums.com/camerareviews/pentax-electro-spotmatic.html

or this: https://www.pentaxforums.com/camerareviews/pentax-es.html

The Electro Spotmatics even when reworked by Asahi still had virtually 1 off circuitry and wear essentially prototypes sold in Japan. Eric can cla the ES and ESII but not the actual Electro.

Could you post pics? The reason I ask is the review section could use a review of one if that is what you have.

It is more of a oscilliting sound when pressing the shutter button in Automatic mode. High frequency sound. It doesn't make that sound in any other position.

There seem to be more chrome ESIIs around than chrome ESes. I couldn't find the chrome one on ebay but I did see a ESII Motordrive (with the motordrive) on sale in Italy. A bit more than I can afford at the moment though.

Even with that I cannot find it, it does not come up with a world wide search on ebay.com, ebay.co.uk or ebay.no. Do you have the item number?

Thanks, Kris.

PS I sent the details of the motordrive version via PM.

Got it, thanks. Funny the various ebay searches didn't turn it up. K.
