red band in developed photos

Hi,
Got out my dads vintage 35mm slr and it still works pretty well execpt when the photos were developed a slight red hue verticle band is visible on one side in some of the photos. Is this light leaking into the film when it is in the camera, or is this band a result of the film processing.

Cheers

Show us a sample. It may be a leak, though very likely it is a developmen/scanning issue. Can you tell if the band is visible in the negatives?

I don't think you can tell whether the film has seen the light through a leak in the back or because of improper handling, except if the red bands are in the same place on all frames. Another sure sign of telling is if the camera has an ever-ready case, which acts like a shield against light and on some pictures you had it on, and on some you had it off, resulting in light leaks. Otherwise, it happened to me (my bro, actually) to open the film door while the film wasn't still fully unwound, and the result was something like this:

If you find out that the camera is on fault, then search ebay for "light seals" for your camera model.

Hopefully a light leak. Could also potentially be a sticky or slow curtain issue. Check the light seals first. If they're gone or gummy and just falling apart, send and email to Jon Goodman (formerly "Interslice" on eBay) at jgood21967@aol.com and ask him for a K1000 light seal kit. He still sells dozen's of light seal kits for various camera models for $10-$15 each and they always fit perfectly.

If it turns out to be a mechanical issue with the camera, you can send it to Eric at Home for CLA or repair.
