58/2 Takumar and Super Program

Risking to be stoned I thought I would share the following

Ever since I got this lens I have been wondering which camera to use. Obviously the original Pentax from 1957 - 1958 is the right fit. But I have bought this lens to photograph with, and lots of it. I am used to the LX, its automode and bright finder. But I did not like the combination of this lens with the LX, the camera too large and the lens too small. So, for hardly any money, I picked up the Super Program and the lens works fine on it in Aperture priority. I will use this lens wide open mostly (this being what it should be so good at) and I am quite surprized how bright the finder of this camera actually is.

this is a really good looking combination

All in all, the SuperA/SuperProgram is a very good body. So far, it's my favorite. The only drawback : the need of battery for the shutter.

Nice! No stoning from here - I even use my 55 2.2 from the same period on my K-5 at times. These lenses do feel "right" on the original AP, but unless you spend a month shooting just that combination it will be slow to use. I started out in '65 with a new H1a and a pre-set 135mm (w Tri-X), and judging exposure and working the preset diaphragm got to be "automatic" after a while. But it's not something you can use a few times and find comfortable.
I have an extra AP body if that lens ever needs a home!

Wow. I really wanted to find that 58mm. It is one of the only Sonnar derivative on SLRs.
