Theft by taking

Well, that's how it felt, driving away from a meeting with a very nice gentleman last evening. Met him through his ad on CL, and picked up the following for a grand total of $40:

ME Super - chrome - excellent+ cosmetics, needs a CLA (hello, Eric....)
ME winder II - slight corrosion from old batteries, but cleaned up nicely, and works perfectly.
SMC M 50mm F1.7 - like new
Vivitar Series 1 28-105mm F2.8-3.8 - like new
Vivitar 75-205mm F3.8 - excellent cosmetics and function, but some magenta spotting on front element.
Super Albinar 49mm close up kit - +1, +2, & +3
Vivitar 550 FD Auto Thyristor flash - like new
Assorted filters to fit all 3 lenses
Cable release
All in a padded aluminum case

This is slated to become my color kit, as soon as I can afford to get the ME Super off to CLA.

Now, if I could just get over the guilt!

Griz

I envy you that 28-105MM Vivitar. The rest I could take or leave but that's a nice little lens and I covet that. I've got the 75-150 though so it's not like I'm deprived, grin. Don't feel guilty, just enjoy. It was meant to be, obviously.

It really is a sweet lens, I might have to sneak it into my B&W kit just for a few test sessions.

The guy had it advertized back in January for $85, still a great price, but an hour and a half drive away, so I passed on it. With summer here, and his price reduction, I couldn't pass it up again, and made the trip on two wheels for a LOT less gas money!

Well that depends. As for storage only, perhaps. But a majority of those case are nothing more than a very thin metal skin over an extremely thin sheet of plywood. Not much more protection than a soft sided case.

Yeah, but I'm still trying to explain to the missus how a $40 purchase needs another $100 (CLA) to make it right....lol.

Think of it as rescuing a wonderful camera from oblivion. If you had not come along the owner, or his family, would eventually have chucked it into the landfill. So, not 'theft' just 'rescue' of a great piece of mechanical history that now has an owner that appreciates it.

Yeah, our Staties aren't really known for their sense of humor. I did manage to remember to take a copy of the ad with me, just for backup!

I appreciate your thought process, that poor thing had not seen the light of day since the '90's.
