No problem at all, except, of course for the autofocus...
And, no Av mode. Leaving the aperture ring on the "A" position doesn't do anything. You need to set the aperture yourself.

Yes that what's what i thought, no AF and no Av mode.

With DA lenses that's another story right?

Nor Tv mode either. Or Sv, or anything "fancy" that the K10D has. Just M mode, (and maybe B?).

Well...the lenses will mount just fine. Keep in mind that DA lenses (with the exception of the DFA macros) are APS-C lenses, and were designed for the smaller image circle. I've heard rumors and talk that the DA40 will cover the full-frame of a 35mm image circle. (I don't need to try as I have a M40/2.8 for my MX.) Saw a thread earlier today, but didn't read it fully, that most DA lenses will cover the 35mm image circle. Can't remember where I saw that thread. Didn't really apply to me as the MX is a fully manual camera and I have enough focal range coverage and lenses for that body that I don't need any of my DA lenses.

That said, you can use DA lenses on the MX, but you will have to expose with the lens wide open. Without an aperture ring, there is no way to step down the aperture blades. So, for example, using the aforementioned DA40/2.8...every image you take will be at f/2.8, and you will only be able to adjust the shutter speed to obtain proper exposure. Might be fun to try.

It just has a basic center-weighted "match-needle" (though it uses green, orange, and red LED's in the place of a mechanical needle) metering system, equivalent to M mode on a DSLR. Only an aperture ring and shutter speed dial instead of a thumb wheel.

As promised, here is the little beast dressed up in brand new grip-tac. This stuff really does work, although IMO it's ugly as sin. But it's a good, utilitarian, no-nonsense kind of ugly. This bad boy is destined to be my knock-about camera for sure: looks rough but works like new.

Hey, the more I can do to keep it from getting stolen, the better, you know?

Steven, it's just the opposite situation. As there is no Aperture ring it will be held stopped down, F22 not wide open, F2.8 and there's no way to change it.

Unless you cut off the aperture lever.. which would then make the lens wide open.. all the time

I would not recommend it.

I sent mY MX to Erik last year and it came back cleaned and upgraded to the hilt. I have two other MX's and I've been planning to send those to him too. Can't have too many MX's, especially since we can rely on Eric to help make them worthwhile.

I've been thinking the same thing. Ya know, so I can have a "beater" MX and a "nice" MX.

Precisely! Except that after Eric gets through fixing them up, there is no beater... You'd probably have to choose your beater camera via the eeny miney mo method.

Those are some gorgeous cameras! But I gotta tell ya, a camera covered in Morgan's hand-finished kid leather feels pretty damn amazing in the hand. Not cheap, but sooooooo worth it. I'll do my Hasselblad next, but THAT is going to be a pricey job -- $130 just for the leather. That's a good chunk of change that could be going toward a lens, after all...

Eric Hendrickson?

This guy sounds great. Where is he located? Does he have a website? I have 3 MXs. They don't need anything but it would be nice to know where I can send them should they need help. They really are great cameras.
