A Little K Mount Bling

Anyone looking to pimp their Pentax a little, look no further than Morgan Sparks: CameraLeather.com Custom camera leather and leatherette.

Although I was tempted by the cobra skin, I decided that hand-finished green kid leather was more my style. $40 later, I've got one hell of a K1000 in my bag.

And I've been thinking a little red snake skin would kick ass on the old Spottie I've got lying around...

That's kind of fun! But would you do something similar with a dslr?

You know, I've been thinking about how I might do that to my K100D. You might be able to replace the rubber with something, but it seems like an awfully awkward shape to try to do with something like leather. The K10D might be easier, because the shape has fewer odd twists and turns.

Yeah, it's not actually quite that lime green in person. It's really much more...normal. And the leather has a great luster to it that just doesn't reproduce well. The example on the camera leather website is much truer: Cameraleather - Colors and materials

Looks great Finn!

Though I must say, I'm far more interested in the lens mounted to that K1000

I was thinking of the Griptac for the K1000 because when I have a short tele like a 70-150 mounted, it's a bit unruly and the original grip is a bit slippy.

I was also thinking of that course black lizard skin but, I'd feel bad using it. No qualms about goat or cow skin, just lizard skin. It seems wrong somehow.. lol

That looks really neat. Have you seen what you can get from Arax, a Russian company that fixes Kiev 88 and 60 medium format cameras. Their special edition models can be deck out in some really outlandish leather finishes.

It's still not a colour I'm particularly fond of. I usually like my cameras carbon black, charcoal black, or black black with a hint of black on the sides, and a black baseplate.

(of course, that being said, I happen to own NO black camera)

Give the top and base plate a nickel coating. Those things look awesome.

Or send it to D&G to replace your boring old lens unlock button with a diamond-encrusted one.

Now that's bling.

A nickel coating? That sounds fun. I wonder how much it'd cost? Any ideas or where to send it?

I considered powder coating - practically bulletproof. I like the look of nickel though.

Also, I live near a metal plating mecca! Sort of.. It's called Paterson, NJ.. I'd have to drop it off carrying a nickel plated something alright though, maybe a .50 cal Desert Storm, If you get my drift.

20 years ago I worked for a chrome plater 'down there' (AKA: hard to find car parts dealer - hint hint - lost job due to the doors didn't open one day and everyone vanished). I delivered the parts to various body shops in North Jersey, never did any of the dirty work (plating - I hear it's dangerous). When I lost my job I was disappointed, it was a fun job for a young guy. Company truck, free gas, paid really well, it had perks too (freebies at the GG joints - new cars, nice homes) But I digress.. This is a Pentax K1000 we're talking about here

Honestly though, I think powder coating could do it some justice.

Ps. The hot shoe cover supplied with the K10D fits nicely on the K1000, just like all the rest.

The 20mm looks good on your customized K1000.

I don't know where you could get your plates nickel coated, since I've never travelled West of the Atlantic.

Sounds like you've had quite an interesting youth. I wish I was that lucky.

Just be careful what colour you choose. Otherwise, your K1000 might turn out to be tacky, instead of bling. Powder coating looks like candy. Imagine the K1000 in a 50 Cent music video.
