MZ-S questions

Some questions about this camera:

- I would like to know how the viewfinder compares to the LX, or KX, or ME Super. In brightness and magnification, and then in what results from the two.

- Then, I would like to know if the ael lock is easy to use. Let's say you've got a face at 2 meters (78 inch), and you want to single it out and lock the exposure value . . . is that easy to do? (I looked at its manual, spotmetering etc. but wasn't sure here. . .)

- Last, a strange question: suppose I use an old lens on this camera, a Zeiss Ultron 50mm using an adapter. I know I would lose autofocus. What happens to the metering? On a LX the lens is wide open no matter which aperture you set. One needs to push a lever to stop it down: the finder gets darker and the exposure value is adjusted accordingly. Will this happen with the MZ-S as well?

Thanks !

I can't answer the first two, as I've never used an MZ-S, but the third I think I can. What is the native mount of your Zeiss Ultron?

Most K-mount lenses will not stop down when metering, even if you change the ring setting, but will only stop down when using Aperture Preview or during the actual exposure itself. Mount your lens, stopped down, on the LX and fire it off at F/16 looking at the aperture. Did the blades move? if so, you're doing Open-aperture focusing. Will changing the F/stop change the shutter speed? If yes, your lens is metering properly to.

Whatever the behaviour there, the MZ-S will treat it the same way.

The Zeiss Ultron 50/1.8 has a M-42 mount, so I use the adapter for the LX ( Carl Zeiss 50mm F1.8 Ultron Lens Reviews - Carl Zeiss Lenses - Pentax Lens Review Database ). It has no open-aperture metering, I manually close the lens to the set aperture, by pushing up this lever on the lens and holding it up while shooting. This works fine for me. When I close the lens like that, the metering follows flawlessly . . . I have shot images with this lens on the LX and ME Super, everything came out just fine.

I expected the lightmeter of the MZ-S to behave like the LX.
