Is this the first thing anyone else did after getting a DA 40 XS?

Just snagged a K 01 with the DA 40 XS, and this was about the first thing I did after the camera arrived today.

OK maybe not the first thing, but maybe the third...

It doesn't seem to meter, and obviously as the lens has no aperture ring, so it only works at 2.8. But the full frame coverage seems fine...I thought DA lenses only had image circles large enough for APS-C sensors. Coverage looks pretty much identical to the M 40 through the viewfinder--some vignetting, but the image circle seems plenty large. The DA XS looks (again, through the viewfinder) a bit sharper than the M 40.

I'm pretty good with LV/EV, so I don't really need the meter on my camera to work.

This combo seems plenty usable to me. My fiancee won't give me back my M 40, so I guess this will have to be my new pancake

Anyone else try this or any other DA lens on a film camera with success?

Sorry to tell you that the lens would work like an F22 lens instead of F2.8 on your ME Super. Although when you look through the viewfinder it seems to be wide open, the aperture will close down when you press the shutter button.

I tested the lens on an MZ-S camera, the results look fine, no obvious dark corners even wide open.

Use a SLR with KA mount to enjoy it ! Like a SuperA (also called Super Program) or a MZ body.

Some of the longer DAs cover the full image circle - the recent 35/2.4, 40/2.8, and 50/1.8 all have been reported as okay. As to sharpness, the word on the street seems to be that the 40 Ltd is much better than the M40, and the 40 XS is almost as good as the Ltd.

That would explain why the meter called for a 1s exposure instead of 1/125. I stuck another lens on to check exposure at 2.8, and got 1/125 as preferred.

.
Because the XS lacks an aperture coupling to tell the camera what aperture it is set to. The camera is metering for f2.8, but the lens will stop down to f22 when the shutter is tripped. All DA and FA J lenses work that way.

Fist time I got it was to lick it .
Second I've put it on the K-5 and K10D.
Third I ordered a lens hood .

But now I want to stick it on my Ricoh film camera .

You'd be limited to shutter priority and program modes, aperture priority and manual require an aperture ring.

Sure, but as the aperture is also display in the VF the shutter priority can also be use as aperture priority. That's how i do.

Yah that's what I had in mind.

I'm going to hijack my own forum here and ask: What's the best KA body? Isn't there a Ricoh one that everyone adores?

No Ricoh body has the Pentax "A" contacts. Sorry You can use A-contact lenses with aperture rings on all Ricoh K-mount bodies, but only in manual or Av modes.

As for the best KA body...that is easy! The Super Program, of course!

Oh man, I hate to give up my ME Super, but I'm going to have to pick up a Super Program. I get so attached to my cameras, but I'm pretty stubborn about getting rid of "redundant" ones. How's the viewfinder on the Super Program? I'm a huge fan of the ME Super VF, and I noticed that the specs are different on the Super Program.
