Originally posted by revdocjim I was given a ZX-7 a few days ago along with the SMC FA 28-80/3.5-5.6 AL lens. I presume that this was the standard kit lens for this body. Everything looks to be in relatively good condition. This is my first "modern" 35mm Pentax SLR and I was pleasantly surprised to see that aperture is controlled manually on the lens. I finally put batteries in it tonight and hopefully I'll get some film in it soon. One thing I noticed is that when zoomed in the aperture values shown in the viewfinder don't match the markings on the aperture ring on the lens. Is this normal? If so, should I assume that the readings in the VF are the correct ones? Just wondering...
Yup, that's correct. At the long end the lens is 1.5 stops slower, and obviously the markings on the lens can't change
So when you have F3.5 selected via the aperture ring, that will correspond to F5.6 at 80mm, and F4 will correspond to roughly F6.7, etc.
