MX Shutter Speed problem

Hi,

Bought a MX had it CLA'd just got it back gave it as a Christmas gift and have just been informed the shutter speeds are not working properly.

Apparently regardless of which shutter speed is selected they are all the same speed. We've tried turning to 'B' pressing the shutter release button and holding it the shutter doesn't stay open.

I've googled till my fingers were sore.... could this be that thelubricant hasn't worked its way through the shutter mechanism or is this indicative of a more serious problem?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Properly serviced, the speeds are going to be fixed. The only thing that might be is missing parts that connect and work the "delay" actions of the low speeds or the connections to the high speed lever.

CLA'd means that lube issues were all taken care of.

It has been a little while since I've been inside my MX bodies, but it sounds like the only speed you should end up with if all levers are stuck is 1/60?

Was the camera damaged by water?

Hi,

Thanks for the response. Although there was no water damage to my knowledge, you correctly diagnosed the underlying problem.

Literally I jumped on a Tube and took the MX to Harrow Technical. Robin solved the problem in 5 minutes. Broken spring on the slow speed delay mechanism. He changed the spring, tested the shutter speed timings and got it fully functioning again. Really impressed with the service.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I appreciate your advise.

If you paid for a CLA and the camera is behaving as you describe, I do believe that a discussion with the service facility is in order. A properly CLA'ed camera should operate smoothly with accurate shutter at all speeds.
