Pentax MX and 645 35mm lens

Hello,

Excuse my ignorance on this question. Just not totally sure about what to do. So, I have a Pentax-A 645 f/3.5 35mm lens. Its a fantastic landscape lens on the 645. I got rid of my 645n body and am now thinking about using this lens on my Pentax MX (with adapter of course). Has anyone ever done this? What were the images like? Would it just be better to sell it and purchase a Pentax 20mm wide angle M lens?

Sorry for all of the questions, just not sure how it would work on the MX. It would be a waste to have the lens just sit around but not sure if it would be worth it to pick up the adapter or just get a different lens for the MX.

Thanks for the help with this everyone.

Sincerely,

Riun

Not sure it would be better, but it'd sure be wider!

First of the 35mm won't feel that wide, and because of its size you might have trouble mounting it on a tripod or even shooting hand-held. I'd personally recommend that you get some nice K-mount lenses for your MX, as the M 35mm is pretty cheap, as is a 24mm. IMO it only makes sense to adapt telephoto lenses.

Thanks for the replies. I appreciate it. I'll sell it and get some good lenses for the MX.

Ah the A 645 35...would I love to own that. Can't do it now though. I have the A 45mm but I always would like to go wider. You should be able to get some decent money for that one.

Well, your lens and the body were both top quality in their day.
And 35 mm is a good focal length on the MX
If you want to keep these, you should go ahead with an adaptor and try it, in my opinion which is a counter to the above ones.
This year I purchased a 1969? vintage P67 1:4.5 75 mm which I have adapted to an old 6 by 9 body.
Still learning to use it, but I can see the outstanding sharpness, flare resistance and the "nice-ness" in among my -K and -M collection.

I am machining my own lens adaptors, I see the 645 has a register of 70.87 mm compared to the 45.46 mm of the MX, so there is exactly 25.41 mm
(1.00 inch, coincidentally!) of room for some tilt and shift in a specialized adaptor

This is one option, though I must say that the FA 35 for 645 is a prized lens at present and will fetch a pretty penny.

Its just the A lens not the FA...the FA is definitely big bucks. I'll prob sell the lens and get something for the MX.

Thanks for all the help everyone. Decision is pretty much made. Now I'll just have to figure out which lens or lenses to get. :-)

For out door, on the MX, consider the XR Rikenon 1:3.5 28 mm - heavy,+ all metal, hood, + 52 dia uv filter

As kcobain said, I just wanted to make sure that you know that a 35mm 645 lens will look like a 35mm on 35mm film. That may sound redundant, but it won't give you a wider angle view on 35mm film as it does on 645.

For a sharp and much lighter 35mm, I recommend the K 35/3.5.

That said, I have the M 20 and I like it a lot. Here's a recent landscape (very slight crop):
