PZ-1p vs MZ-3

How does these cameras compares? PZ-1p & MZ-3.

Both seems to have same features including max shutter speed but MZ-3 seems to be a lot more compact.

The MZ-3 only has a shutter speed of 1/4000s. The PZ-1p has a shutter speed of 1/8000s. Flash sync is 1/125s on the MZ-3 and 1/250s on the PZ-1p. Exposure compensation is +/-3 on the MZ-3 and +/-4 on the PZ-1p. The PZ-1p has MTF program mode, i'm not sure if the MZ-3 does or not.

The MZ-3 and PZ-1p have different controls (dial vs menu). The MZ-3 has limited power zoom vs the full power zoom of the PZ-1p.

Thanks, just wondering what makes MZ-3 so expensive, one in market for $500 and in general not easy to find of ebay too.

They are rare. They were only sold in limited markets and it is more advanced than the ZX-5N.

just keep a sharp eye out

I found this MZ-3 on the Bay last month for $96.80 shipped from Japan, I was the only bidder. It came with a freshly replaced/upgraded mirror motor + gear. I have not had a chance to load it with film yet and shoot it. I will real soon. My auto-focus lenses sure snap into focus quickly with it.

[edit 7/10/2013] 12 rolls of Ektar 100 later; sight-seeing in SanFrancisco, two weeks in China, the SeaOtter Classic, this MZ-3 has performed flawlessly. I am much more confident in the auto-focus accuracy of this MZ-3 than my much newer K7. I also bought the optional battery grip for it (new $19).

I have owned both PZ-1p and ZX-5N. ZX-5N is almost same as MZ-3. From my experience, ZX-5N is not even close to PZ-1p in terms of features, handling, ruggness, AF performace, etc. Many years ago, I even saw someone mentioned on forums his ZX-5N lens mount ring was torn out by a heavy lens, due to its plastic frame. The metal lens mount ring was screwed into plastic body frame. I suspect MZ-3 is the same body frame.
