Kodak Medalist & Medalist II

This is my friend Bob's 1944 Kodak Medalist, next to my 1947 Kodak Medalist II.
Both are fully functional, and I should have scans later today from the test roll I ran through Bob's Medalist.
Nice machines. What a pity Kodak gave up on quality like this for mass market plastic. All they seemed interested in was selling film by any means. This shortsightedness let their lead in the digital age slip away as well.

Kodak continued to make high quality professional products for almost another 20 years alongside their consumer cameras. That being said, for every Retina or Medalist sold, thousands of Brownies made their way into the hands of budding photogs.

I have an original Medalist myself...the pictures that thing takes are amazing. Wonderful cameras, and big, BIG negatives!

A recent acquisition. The red sticker stops the loose rewind handle from flopping about as I broke the metal piece that's supposed to hold it in place. Light seals have been changed and the meter seems accurate.

It is nice to be able to respond in a multilingual manner, isn't it?

Nice, that's the first camera that I ever took pictures with. (It was my mom's)

A recent charity shop find for £10. It seems to be in excellent working condition. There is a sticker inside from a service in Malmö which was guaranteed until April 1st 1964.

Now to load it with film.

I have one that I think is exactly the same. It's a great camera. I'd check for light leaks in the bellows before use though - in a dark room open the back and shine a torch in and inspect from outside.

The bellows look pretty good. I've loaded it with Portra 400. I'll go out tomorrow and shoot some frames. K.
