That 15-30 is just insane. I am constantly suprised with how stupid wide sigma has made FF glass.

They have one FF zoom that starts at like, 11 millimeters, which is just completely nuts.

IHS: The MG is a good camera, and if you don't already, you'll love that Sigma 24. I adore mine. Super-close focus and very nice images.

Tuco: Lovely shot. It's like being in a 1980s newsroom or programmer's office.

i know (an it's in the database) that Sigma did a 12-24 for FF which is so wide (122 degree of FoV horizontaly !)!

@Digitalis : in a phrase, how does the Sigma compare to the Pentax 20-35 ? I'm asking because as far as i can tell, we seems to value more or less the same things in lenses rendering, so your point of view interests me.

I really like the finish and appearance of the new Sigma lenses. Very classy.

Awhile ago, I ran across an ebay listing for a camera, motor drive, and two lenses, all in this curious bag that looks exactly like a Billinham 225. I took a gamble and bought the kit for the total cost of $90.
Since receiving the kit, I've done a bit of digging into what this bag is. It turns out to be a British Correspondent's Bag sold by Banana Republic sometime around 1985. It was made in England exclusively for Banana Republic, but there is no reference as to who made it. I've found some unsubstantiated claims that they were made by Billingham, and a few claims that they were made by Brady Bags of England. Given the design and detailing, I think it more likely to have been made by Billingham.
I've since sold most of what came in the bag, for basically $90, so now I have a free, very well made, and fairly rare Banana Republic British Correspondent's Bag.

^^^Very nice! Is that white part soft leather or canvas? Can't quite tell, but either way it's super classy!

Eric: Thanks and yes...I love that lens! I got it for a song off of the local craigslist. (25 bucks)

The sigma 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 is actually a barrel of fun (and barrels of distortion too come to think of it), it has an aperture ring, covers full frame, and has a rear gel filter slot - I have been spending some time getting re-acquainted with gel filters and they are actually quite fun. the big upshot of using them is you don't have to worry about ruining the threads on expensive filters, they are easy to replace (and lose) and they tend not to cause filter flare issues.

I don't have a copy of the Pentax 20-35mm

it is also a sand and dust magnet. And it shows fingerprints easily, which would be fantastic if you work in forensics and wanted to figure out who pinched your lens while you were out of the studio.

Just shot this a few moments ago for my blog, and I realize these lenses are all FF/film friendly (even the DA40 I hear)

Yeah, that's a Nikon F2AS, pretty rare camera, with DP-12 finder, the only one that works with AI lenses and with the SPD lightmeter that gives and increased sensitivity at low light. It's hard to find, unlike the normal photomic (DP-1) and its AI version, the F2A (DP-11 ), ESPECIALLY at decent price and with a lens.

On this excellent website there is a lot of info about the F-2 system (as well as the LX and the Canon F-1 old and new):
