I've collected many of the upper-end, non-Leica manual focus SLR cameras from the 70's and 80's like Nikon's F2 and F3, Canon's F1 and F1 new, the Olympus OM4Ti, Contax RTS II, etc, but the jewel of Pentax manual focus cameras has up til now eluded me... no more!

A very simple and intuitive aperture-priority camera whose very simplicity belies the excellent craftsmanship beneath. The viewfinder has to be seen to be believed.
Very nice looking and with the sync terminal cover that has so far eluded me. Congrats!

Now that you have all these old classics cameras which is your favourite?

That's a tough call. I find the Canons a bit fiddly, the OM4Ti is nice but I'm annoyed with how hard the FP flash is to get figured out, and the F2, well I feel it's a great camera but an even better weapon or emergency hammer. I haven't used the RTS II enough to say for sure but it's another lovely camera. The LX is very very nice and I'd rank it alongside, maybe even higher than the F3. Definitely easier to focus with the LX and see the shutter speed.

I feel your pain Wolf!
I don't have any Leicas but I have quite a few Nikons, Pentax, Mamiya-Sekor and Canon's in my collection. While I admire Contax and even Yashica (among others) I have deliberately limited myself to the above as I already have way, WAY too much equipment. I shoot them all on a regular basis; not as much as I'd like but I do try.

The LX has eluded me as well; it's getting tough to find the equipment we love in decent condition these days.

My Tower 26 is the AP. The shutter speed scale on the AP is different from "S".

In the link from LesDMess, you see that the S and AP both are denoted as Tower 26. The I don't know if this is correct or not.

Regards
Baard-Einar.

Go for it Jean! It'll probably double in value in ten years. Maybe.

f you really are serious about bidding on this item, be aware that these are exactly the vintage of Leica lens that tend to have problems with haze from the volatile whale-oil lubricant used in them. I notice the ad only mentions scratches and fungus,,,,

It aint a good deal to me.

If you take the Summarit 50/1.5 which can be consider as the most interesting lens, you can have it for around 500-800€, the body for 600€, the Ektor surface from less than 200€ quite often this days, the two Elmar can surface quite often for less than 300€.

Also take in consideration that many of those lenses can be found in soviet version for half the price, without much headache.

If you are serious about Leica, check out second hand items alone, they can be found from time to time for not much.

The III Gustav fetches good money, plus you have all the hoods etc...they are pricey today.

However since we are talking about Leica systems, this is my humble M3 system.

This 1954-1958 Retinette was the first model to come after the folders. Although it may seem less desirable than the later models with brightline viewfinders, this is very solid, with a better quality shutter and metal components rather than plastic. This example with it's case is near mint and fully serviceable with clean glass all round. In it's class, this has to be one of the best viewfinder cameras produced.
