As the previous poster suggested, go to the indicated web site. Made by Internationale Camera AG (= "ICA") in Dresden in the early 1900's. Lens = 135mm f8~f36. Shutter 1/25 to 1/100 B&Z ("Z" = time).
The impressive sounding "Extra Rapid Aplanat Helios" lens is a two-element design, one element held by a locking ring on either side of the shutter. Not exactly a "user," especially because it's very unlikely you can obtain the correct roll film.

I finally received a DECENT AX-5:

It came from Germany with two flash guns, a cheap Sigma zoom and a mint case and Fukinon 50 mm f1.6, plus all the paperwork including the original receipt: it was bought the 27th of December 1982, I assume it was a late Christmas' present.

I plan to use it mainly with my Fujinon 50mm f1.2.

I also have a fetish for small accessories so I bought a Pentax hood with leather case to hang to the strap, I like the combination:

New acquisitions. Traded for the F2, free 50, 28, and 200 from my brother in law's father's kit. 85mm for portraits. Additionally, four third party lenses from the $5 grab baskets at our local brick and mortar. First roll of Ilford B/W in the chamber.

Soligor Tele-Auto 135mm 3.5
Vivitar 75-205mm f3.5-4.5 Macro Focusing
Vivitar 200mm f3.5 (oily blades but otherwise spotless)
Vivitar Series 1 70-210 f3.5 Macro Focusing (like new)

Retina 1 (Model 148) 1939. Just before the war. Kodak Ektar f3.5 (Premium lens of it's day) The 1934 model was the first camera to use the disposable 35mm cartridge we still use today.

Yes I agree the Tessars do a fine job, The Schneider Xenar is also of that design, and as an example of how good that lens is, here is an indicative shot I took in New Zealand with a Retina 1B. Check the details in the original size on Flicker if you wish.

Coff coff... if I may...I've two F2s and althought they are high quality I think the old Canon F-1 is built better, it's also quieter and smoother in the operation.

Also the humble Nikkormat oozes quality and feels more solid than the F2, probably because it's made (carved from?) in one piece.

I agree the Nikkormat is probably as well made as the F2. I have a couple of FT2s and love them. I can't comment on the Canon F-1 as I have not seen one, but I take your word on it being as good as you say it is.

I agree Arnold and Cuthbert, having traded in a well used Nikkormat FTN and a my wife's Nikon FG for the F2. I bought the Nikkormat for my sister in the 80's and she used it up. Never ventured towards the Canons during the early 70's as our Navy Photography Mates would come in the Galley using Nikons and Pentax and had a phrase about "Cannons." For a vintage
user I was looking for something to contrast with my original 1971 Spotmatic II kit. As for film use, whatever anyone is happy with the results using, go for it. I sorta like getting like new third party lenses for $5 each.

Sometimes "well built" and/ or "solid" really mean only "big and heavy." There's no evaluating such things and shutter & meter accuracy, reliability and durability by simply hefting a camera, throwing the rapid wind lever, and listening to the mirror flap and shutter click. Doing so is rather like slamming the doors, kicking the tires, and peering without comprehension at the cat's-cradle of tubes and wires under the hood. Mercedes look wonderful, but their reliability based on owner experience is nowhere as good as the homely Scion.

Not much to complain about the F2 . . . but . . . if you don't like the look of the photomic viewfinder, the plain viewfinder does not have a meter.

OK, after i got my niece her IKON 4.5x6 folder, i almost immediately wished that I had one for myself.

Today, i was banging around on an auction site, and found THIS!
Zenobia 120 Film Bellows Folding Camera Case 75mm Daiichi Lens Japan | eBay

I have seen these IKON copies going for upwards of $200 or more, a tessar lens, and a rapid shutter with pc and cable release.
Holy cow, I'm sweating.

I can pull the shutter, yank the glass, clean and relube the shutter and have a pristine and gorgeous pocket folder, YAY!!!
