Yes Steve, that's a real dog! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder though, or so they say (although I'm glad I don't have to behold that one too often )

I handled all three cameras back in the day and am surprised that any of them sold.

Wow... that is... weird. Kind of like "Daft Punk" does photography

I have my own ugly duckling camera lurking in the back of my cupboard, in new / unused condition (and it will probably remain that way, as I can never be seen on the street with it)...

Yes indeed Basically an Olympus Mju / Stylus in a white tuxedo Actually, given that, it's probably a decent camera, albeit fully automatic...

EDIT: I have a whole bunch of 35mm compact cameras that I collected while dipping my toe in the world of "Lomography"... Some of them are truly awful things, while others are reasonably decent and capable of taking good photos. Unlike the guy that was operating them

He he Yeah, I'm glad they put "On" and "Off" on there, otherwise I'd be tempted to crank the thing round to get the engine started

The Elan II is the EOS 50. My version is the Elan IIe with eye control which, works surprisingly well (for me) The autofocus really surprised me. Snappy and responsive. Quite a bargain for the prices they sell for these days and, my E-TTL flashes work with it. Usually like mechanical things but, this all electronic plastic camera just...works. Quiet as a mouse (mirror and motor drive are virtually inaudible)
I was in a second-hand shop last week and debated over getting an EOS 50 for €18 or not and in the end I left it. They had another one in what looked like the same condition for €60. Strange.

I don't want to start building up EOS cameras but I need to get myself a fast 50 (but not the f/1.8 mk II).

I love Pentax kit so much but, I managed to buy an EF 85mm f/1.8 for £120. I definitely couldn't do that with Pentax, which is a real shame. Good job I can use both. I also got a MK 1 metal mount EF 50 1.8 for £50. There's so much EOS glass out there its dirt cheap. I'm not about to jump ship though because..I don't have to. I can shoot both.

I have a rather lovely (read old) Zenit 12xp and a set of third party lenses. Can I post it here?

What you posted was the link to the page and not the image -> My Asahi super takumar 55mm f/1.8

To embed the image, you will have to inspect the page source and find the instagram image link -> https://instagram.fsnc1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/t51.2885-15/e35/12677241_10882930778...21030213_n.jpg and that one you can embed inline with your text as shown below.
Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. Any ideas on which siteto use to post images, then link then here? The instagram square doesn't really work!
