The 70-210mm Series 1
What are the first two digits of the serial number for the 70-210 lens? 22 (Kiron) or 28 (Komine) or something else?

The first two digits are "22".

My 1955 Rolleiflex 2.8C Planar, taken with my 1960 3.5F Xenotar, while testing a Telesar brand Bay II close up lens that I bought for $10. It is similar to a Rolleinar 2, with a close up lens for the taking lens an a parallax correcting lens for the viewing lens. It works great, especially for 1/10th the price of a Rolleinar.

Nice! Works great indeed. I love the Xenotars personally.. a bit more if I'm honest.

Say, is there some fungus in your 2.8 taking lens or do my eyes deceive me in this shot? (I just finished disassembling and cleaning to infested Hexanons so I'm pretty much seeing fungus-illusions everywhere at the moment.)

Honestly, if you compare 2.8 Planar to 2.8 Xenotar, or 3.5 Planar to 3.5 Xenotar, I doubt there would be any noticeable difference between the two. If you compare a 2.8 Planar to a 3.5 Planar, you will start seeing more difference.
No fungus in the taking lens on my 2.8C. The Zeiss coatings of that era have the appearance of cloudiness when viewed from a distance, but it is clean and clear.

I figured as much... right now I'm like the kid in the Sixth Sense.... I see fungus people - they're everywhere.

Shower with Hibiclens, that should help.

Canon or third-party adapter? (And if Canon: do you find the adapter a bit loose?)

Regarding the Nikkor 50/2 on the FTb, I have an adapter I bought from an eBay seller several years ago. It's made in China (of course), but surprisingly, the lenses I've tried on my Canons cinch up tight.

So it seems that AI lenses are tight (judging by a new Series E 50/1.8 lens), but non-AI lenses are loose.

I always felt the Series E lenses were built by a completely different group of people... it sure seems like it, anyway...

Today's adventure. Today's win!
Only took 4 hours. The introduction, evidently, of liberal thread lock and even cement in retainer ring threads slowed me to a crawl for the first half.
It was 2 hours before I ever touched an actual element. Did a 28mm and 50mm from the same lot I got for $18 a week or so ago. Not bad.
