Thanks. Mine has a 66 (1966) starting serial number and I eye/ear test the speeds which seem OK.
#66 number? That would be the beginning of year-indexed serial numbers for the FED-2.

I use the same lens with my 500 C/M and figure it is the finest lens I own, bar none.

Mine’s a B model, a little older, no self timer, different leatherette and writing...

I think I paid about $100 for the camera, industar 26, a Jupiter-12 35mm f2.8, and a couple rolls of Fomapan 400...

My LX will be lonely as well. Maybe it needs a MX for company? My tech just finished restoring one...

I suspect that if I were forced down to just one camera body it would have to be my F4 simply because it does everything with complete panache and uses every Nikkor I own perfectly. Sure, it is big and heavy, but it lets one work in any manner one might wish, whether carefully and deliberately or fast and furious madly burning through film.

One of these came up yesterday on a FB Marketplace (Portland) for $225 USD in excellent condition with MB-21 and E-series 50/1.8. I had a faint twinge to buy, but considered that I own no AF Nikkor lenses and passed. (Still available BTW.)

Yes, it's quite a MONSTER! The weight and size keep it parked on my shelf for the most part, although I do find it to be a fine camera. I actually prefer my old Nikkormat EL and my FE2 when I decide to use a Nikon 35mm camera, only because the size and weight are right (plus they perform very well). The EL is a bit heavy, the camera is built like a tank.

My FED2 appears to be a PE0457 with serial no. 5622397. If does have an Industar 26m lens, though, not the 61.

I own a couple of these. I use them for up-close and macro when in need.

edit: mine is the 252

I had it set up a bit like this (this photo was for reference only) the rail needed flipped so it wouldn't poke me in the face all day.

The F4 is the iconic pro AF body, distinctive, purposeful and long lasting. Despite not having any Nikon gear I'm quite tempted to get one.

Ok, this is a fairly nerdy collector thing, but getting a pair of lenses with consecutive serial numbers is a really difficult thing to do. Usually it's because a pro or rich amateur bought multiple copies of a lens at one time and eventually sells them. In this case I happened to be looking for this specific lens and while comparing prices and condition of the eBay listings I noticed that these two lenses had consecutive numbers. The really unusual thing is that they were two separate listings, one from Japan and the other Australia.
