Originally posted by tonyzoc I have an interesting Minolta rangefinder... the A5. it has a citizen leaf shutter with speeds from 1 to 1/1000 sec. I've never seen another leaf shutter with 1/1000th top speed, though I suppose there must be others. I have the 45mm f/2.8 Rokkor but there is supposed to be a 45mm f/2 version, which I've never seen.
BION: The Speed Graphic press camera had one lens that offered a 1/1000 shutter speed. I'm not sure how reliable it was because SFAIK it was available only for a short time and also SFAIK no other large-format camera or lens maker picked up on the design and offered a leaf-shutter speed shorter than 1/500.

I remember when this shutter was introduced. The 1/1000 sec was achieved by changing the design of the blades and how they move. Leaf shutter blades typically open then close. The Graflex shutter had blades that rotated so they didn't have to come to a full stop than go back. As you might expect, the shutter blades had a unique shape.
