My first Pentax ever -- a nice ME Super that I bought a couple weeks ago and a Pentax-M 1.7 prime lens that just came in yesterday. Still need to get batteries and a lens cap, and clean the viewfinder, lens, and mirror (and buy Tri-X).

^^^Congrats!!! That's a great way to start...the ME Super is an amazing camera. Download the manual from Butkus if you don't already have it, and explore all the features of a really great camera. You're gonna love it! Looking forward to some swamp pics.

The ME super, and normal ME, are probably my favourite Pentax cameras of all time.

They just have a near perfect combination of reliability, size, simplicity, speed, and price.
The only thing I sometimes wish my ME had was the ability to manually choose the shutter speed, which the ME super fixed.

You've made a great first choice.

Today returning from work I found this nice pack:

Let's check it out what's inside...oh a nice box:

Perhaps inside the box there's something interesting...let's look inside:

So, an 85 mm f2.0, caps, hood, and a card with the serial number....let's chek it out how it does look on my LX:

The multicoating is nice, there's a lot of dust tough, even inside.

However it's very luminous.

Looks cool on my LX...the scariest thing is that this 85 mm is slightly longer than a 50 mm f1.4, same diameter etc...was it a good purchase for £97?

I paid 125 for mine a few years ago, and until now I've never seen one cheaper. Mine has very little inner dust though.

It's a wonderful lens, I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

No. Definitely not.

I will be kind and take it off your hands for what you paid. Nice guy, I am.

Wow! Score!
The hood for the 85/2 will work perfectly on the 50/1.4, so you can carry one hood for both lenses.

The lens alone normally sells for that. I was very pleased to get mine fort £95 which I considered a big bargain. To get all the rest as well, definitely a good buy. K.

You sure? It's pretty long, I wouldn't like to have some vignetting problems on the 1.4...sometimes I use "short" hood on longer lenses, but it's definitely good to have this one because I also own a 100 mm f2.8 and for that it should fit...

Unfortunately the weather is awful, I'm looking forward to trying this infamous lens to see if it's at the height of its reputation but I don't want to waste 36 exposures with self portraits, however the good thing of the 85 for what I've seen in the viewfinder is that it appears it can replace a "standard" lens for 90% of the normal applications.

Phil, you're the expert in old Pentax lenses, is it true that the Tak 1.8 and the K1.8 (I assume they are the same lens optically speaking) are much better than the M 2.0? I noticed their prices on evilbay are ridicoulus, on the other side some similar lenses like the Canon FD 85 mm f1.8 and the Nikkor 85mm f1.8/2.0 don't have this "aura" and they are sold of one third of a Tak.
