I don't have the light path reference for the X700's judas window but looking at a couple of others - Pentax LX - Full Info on Its Interchangeable Viewfinders, Interchangeable Viewfinders for Nikon F3 cameras - Part III, it doesn't look like it is so simple. My guess would be a broken/missing mirror, dirt or possibly mold is blocking the view.

BTW, another great haul!
Merci Les ... thanks for your advice/input. Salut, J

If the Minolta is anything like a K Series Pentax then it’s just a small piece of glass/plastic that gets jarred out of position.

I have had a few KX & K2DMD bodies where Eric has had to reset the Judas window back in place. Most common is that the window is blank/dim or I even had one that was reversed and the aperture reading was far way and you could see most of the ring.

Phil.
Salut Phil ... thanks. I was thinking that something was out of place. Really do not miss it nor need it ... but it would be nice to have. Cheers, J

Great find...My father in law shot that same set up for years. When he passed away it went to my brother in law where it now sits on his shelf unused.
Thanks ... I have had a very lucky end of year string going ... May it continue into 2015 !

Dunno if this counts as "gear Porn" but I built a Flash Guide Number Calculator.
it's a pdf file, and just a basic setup, but it works, and I will rebuild it at some time to include full cut/fold directions, usage instructions.
It will have a photon adder, and a manner to save flash specific modifiers, just some cool stuff.
Anyways, here it is:

Great haul Jean its hard to keep up with your thrift store "Porn". While they are working X700's are nice to shoot with but they can be a bit fragile, especially the electronics. But that 35-70mm MD zoom on the front of it is one of my all time favourite lenses they were so good that they were also produced under the Leica badge,a constant f3.5 stack of primes that also had Macro.
Here's some of my recent additions from combing a local second hand market. A rare Neoca rangefinder in full working order with its box, a mint condition Helios with its original caps and a very rare find a Pentax 35mm film cassette that looks like it was hardly used and I still got change from $10 AUD for this lot.

The judas window could be a remnant from a previous hamfisted service.

I have a KX on which said device didn't work on arrival, pulled the top cover off to find the piece of metal supporting the mirror was bent. After some cautious trial-and-improvement bending with a pair of fine-nosed pliers it works perfectly.

Nice! And nicer still when you add a scale for metres, of course

I intend to build a setup that uses metres, rather than clutter up the distance scale with differing units.

Black SP finally happened! £30 with SMC 55/2 in an auction. It's so gorgeous I could cry.

Think I saw that one but passed it by as I didn't have the spare cash. Glad to see it went to someone on here!

I ummed and ahhed about it because I though if I started bidding it would get expensive and I'd end up spending cash I didn't have too! But thankfully I got lucky, it's just a matter of waiting until the right one comes along I'm trying to be less compulsive with my fleabay purchases these days, I was just wasting too much money. But if it's shiny (or not shiny lol) and says Pentax on it it's hard to pass by.

Two classics from the 1950s. A Pentax K camera (1958), and a 17 bladed Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar 58/2, this one manufactured around 1950. The Auto Takumar 55/1.8 zebra this camera came with might look cooler, but my version of the Zeiss produces sharper photos with more organised bokeh. Plus the pre-set aperture, with all those blades, works so smoothly and is a joy to use (unlike the focus ring!).

TBH I'd rather have a black Spotmatic F, I've got a good chrome Spotty I hardly use so there's not much point buying a black one.

I just search "Pentax" with it set to show newly listed items first, have bagged a few nice BIN items that way before anyone else noticed them. Also a good way to hunt for cheap restoration projects, like the tidy but jammed H2 I paid a fiver for and got working with a lot of lighter fluid and some careful oiling.

That's very nice ... enjoy that Biotar. TFS, J
