The XK has some quirky/unique/advance features as identified in the Rokkorfiles review. You will notice in this overhead shot with their prisms off that all but the XK have the ability to change shutter speeds. This as well as ASA/ISO and meter compensation are all incorporated in the XK's viewfinder. Like the Nikon F2, the XK also had the battery in the body but the metering was in the prism. Also like the F2, the XK only has metering with the appropriate metered viewfinders. The Canon New F-1 has metering in the body but you need the viewfinder to see the metering. The Nikon F3 has meter fully incorporated in the body and is fully functional without a prism on if you can view the tiny LCD. The LX is fully functional without a viewfinder and the LED meters are easiest to see.

Excellent comparison thank you. I must admit the lack of manual speeds without battery is a negative for me. Yet here we are today TOTALLY battery dependent in the digital world. The LX is pretty good that way, except for the lower speeds. As a result, I am always drawn back to my MX, a camera that makes no decisions for me.

I really like this Asahiflex H2. The brown case and chrome body looks to me very hot and fits in the category gearp0rn.

Yashica 1960, speeds 1 to 1/1000 (Lynx 5000 came out in 1962 with battery powered meter)
Minolta 1966 speeds 1/4 to 1/500 It is more sophisticated with automatic exposure available, but not as smooth handling as the Lynx. Both have excellent 1.8 lenses. The lightmeter in the Minolta is more advanced than the Lynx 5000, but I prefer the Lynx for handling and greater shutter speed selections.

Very cool! My Lynx 1000 is currently suffering from a jammed aperture mechanism (common problem) and it makes me sad.

Still working fine, purchased in 1988 in Hongkong just after it came out.
The Yashica Samurai is a half frame SLR, giving usually 75 images on a 36 roll of 35mm - never tried a roll of HP5/72.
DX film works best.
With the two convertors it goes from 20mm to 140mm.

I am still sort of wondering why this type of design never made it. this contraption is a really nifty one-handed shooter.

A Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar T 58/2 (circa 1950), with its offspring: a Helios 44-2 (M42) on the left and a Helios 44 zebra (M39) on the right. The Biotar is surprisingly small!

...and the sign of good quality glass (apparently)...just some of the air bubbles in the Zeiss glass. They don't show in the images the lens takes.

The other day a "New" lens arrived in my mailbox, an Asahi-Kogaku 1:3.5 f=100mm. The lens was in production back in 1952. The lens is really tiny, only 34mm filter diameter. The lens is not clean and should have been thru a CLA but Eric was not able to do any repair on this for me. On the pictures you can see how small the lens is and imagine, there are actually 16 blades in that aperture. I have included a photo to compare it to the next 100mm that Asahi produced, the Takumar 100mm f3,5 from 1957. And also how this looks on camera, one the left is a Asahi Pentax from 1957, and the right one is Asahiflex IIa from 1955.

I have not had any chance to test the lens, lacking adapter for m37. Maybe I should load film in the Asahiflex to test it. Anyone here with some shots taken with this lens?

They certainly changed the look of the lens. Why couldn't Eric service it?

Two reasons: He wrote that it was very difficult to reassble the aperture blades, and he didn't have the propper adapter to Connect it to the machine used to adjust focus etc.

Here's another size comparison. The large, and diminutive, Takumar 35mm's. The Auto-Takumar 35/2.3 and the Super-Takumar 35/3.5. Taken by a Macro Takumar 50/4 preset. Three of the great Takumar lenses.
