I love the rangefinders of the 50s to 60s, and have far too many. However, when this rare (1959) Ricoh S-2 came up on eBay with a stuck shutter, I couldn't resist. Removing the front and rear glass was easy, and the shutter blades were cleaned with isopropol alcohol, freeing them up, and restoring the camera to perfect functional condition. It is beautifully made with chrome plated brass. The lens looks like a Tessar construction. The trigger winder underneath is unusual, and comes away with the whole base for adding & removing film, like a Nikon F. Has a Citizen shutter, and what appears to be a hot shoe.

Yes, it does have a hot shoe, but it is proprietary to a matching flash gun, IIRC.

Sacrilege, I know, but I think these name-plates from the "legendary" 8 element Super-Takumar 50/1.4 make rather nice Christmas ornaments (....during a clean of the lenses I hasten to add).

Didn't the SWC only ever come with the 38/4.5 Biogon?

In a word - yes. The 38 was standard for a very long time.

In my opinion- the most genius, sophisticated and efficient photographer-in-control oriented spot metering system ever manufactured. Far surpassing everything else before and after it, within or without a camera body- may someday some company have the vision and tenacity to equal it! My ode to the ingenious OM-3/OM-4.

With such praise, I'm very curious to know how it worked, and why it was so good? I use a Pentax Digital Spotmeter (which really isn't digital, but it does show "digits" instead of having an analog needle) myself, which is not ingenious in any way, just very, very simple.

Glazer's Camera had it. The salesman knows I like medium format film gear and pointed it out to me. I just saw what looked like a large, tapered front of the lens which looked like a 40mm to me and assumed they made one with that lens at one point. I couldn't read the front. But I fear if the camera is there too long then one day I might I might end up getting it.

I've not been in Glazers in years, but don't remember them ever selling much used gear that was interesting. Maybe I should pop in again.

That part of town is torn up for construction. Glazer's moved into their small lighting/rental/film building while the new main store is being built in all that construction going on. Glazer's has way more stuff than Kenmore. They still have a pretty good film selection, developing chemicals, paper and other stuff.
