Yeah, I have instructions. It looks a bit more complicated than some of the other lenses, but I’ll give it a try once I get back. I did shoot a couple of test rolls around St. Petersburg with the Jupiter-8, Jupiter-12, and Helios-104. One thing I liked about the Helios was the aperture had click stops. The lenses without click stops have a tendency to drift while I’m walking around with the camera.

Nothing as exotic as most, but I'll play.

Artsy picture front to back:
Olympus OM-1
Fujica ST701
Pentax K1000
Pentax SP1000
Mamiya/Sekor 1000DTL
Yashica TL Electro X
The picture doesn't really do justice to the difference in size between the Olympus and the Yashica.

Picked up at the local flea market. While the Kilfitt-Makro-Kilar name is a clue that this was designed by Heinz Kilfitt of Robot fame, it wasn't produced by his Munich factory. Instead, it was one of two Kilfitt lenses produced in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. The other being the Makro-Kilar E, which differed from the D in that it only went down to 1:1.2 instead of 1:1.1.

Near as I can tell, these are also the only lenses that Kamerabau Anstalt Vaduz produced — and possibly even the only lenses produced in Liechtenstein. The 2.8 aperture dates this lens to no earlier than 1956, as the versions produced in 1955 had a maximum aperture of f3.5.

The OM bodies always throw me for a loop when I see them, as it takes me a moment to remember that the shutter controls are on the lens mount. And during that brief moment before I remember I'm left going "1/1600? What?"

Did you say this was found at a flea market? I am feeling a little sick in that jealousy is not part of my normal self.

I'm in agreement with Steve on the jealousy for that flea market find.

I've had the same reaction, more than once, with the 1/1600

Okay, I'll play too. Here's an old slide I took years ago. Still have the camera and lens -- or ones just like them.

I haven't bought any Pentaxes lately, but I did pick up another Minolta XD-11 for a great price the other day. The unremarkable Vivitar zoom was basically a body cap for the camera. I already own an XD-11, but couldn't let this one just sit there at such a low price. Especially since it included the Minolta XD winder. It shows dirt and smudges in the photo, but cleaned up nicely.

One of the recurring flea markets I check out has a few semi-regular camera vendors. They range from specializing in rare/high-quality equipment and charging appropriately, to whatever odds and ends they picked up at garage sales/thrift stores/on Kijiji* recently. (Usually a lot of Canon A-series cameras and FD 50/1.8 lenses.)

Most of the time there's nothing worth buying, but sometimes...

This one came from a seller who's somewhere in between the two extremes: he's got a few really good pieces and knows what to charge for them, and then a bunch of odds and ends. Someone apparently sold him a lot of Exakta lenses the other day, including this one.

* Canadian Craigslist/Gumtree equivalent.

The Three Musketeers

Finally tha last in the gang arrived.

Black Asahi Pentax is my passion, and finally getting a hold of the black AP makes me smile. Just need to find the correct lens (which I think is going to be really hard...)

The first three Pentax SLR's came as standard in chrome, and optionally in black. The number of black bodies is estimated to be about 10% of the production run. AP: 19500, S: 4900, K: 21000.

There were even special black lenses to go along with the black bodies: For the AP: A black Takumar 58mm f2, and for the K: a black Auto-Takumar 55mm f1.8. From what I know, there wasn't a black lens released for the S, I would assume the option would be to use the black Takumar 58mm F2.

In the photo attached the lenses are:
Black AP: Takumar 58mm f2
Chrome AP: Takumar 55mm f2.2

Black S: Takumar 83mm f1.8
Chrome S: Takumar 100mm f3.5

Black K: Non-zebra all-black Auto-Takumar 55mm f1.8
Chrome K: Zebra Auto-Takumar 55mm f1.8

Which do you prefer? Chrome or black?

I've got both kinds. I tend to forget which ones are what color.

All my Nikons are black and all (but one) of my Pentax’s are chrome. It makes it easier to find a camera when I want to shoot it.

So you just go with one of the chrome ones or the LX?
