Exactly. This seems more and more common. Translation --- "I have tested it and it doesn't work and is likely not repairable but please pay for my regular profit margin whilst holding on to the slim-to-none hope you still have inside that I may actually in fact mean 'un-tested'."

(I recently sent a bit of a terse comment to a seller that stated "Untested and sold as such as I do not have the proper battery to power it"...
It was an early 80s body which took AAA cells. And it was certainly not priced "as such".)
There was a 35mm body for sale here recently that was advertised as 'perfect functional condition' while at the same time 'not tested with film'...

How can you know if a film camera is functioning perfectly if you haven't shot any film?

At least they said it wasn't tested with film!

A thorough testing *without* film would have to included checking that film advance and shutter cocking mechanisms appeared to work properly, all shutter speeds fired and seemed accurate, internal light meter (if there is one) worked and seemed accurate compared to another camera, film door seals and mirror foam looked to be in good condition...other features of the model also appeared working.

Certainly some "appearances" might prove to be inaccurate when film is actually used. There could be light leaks, especially if it is an old 35mm model with a bellows. Shooting at least part of the first test roll using a handheld light meter as a back up could be helpful. Whether the body properly engages with aperture stop-down levers or pins on lenses might not be apparent until a film test. Etc., etc.

But if the price is cheap enough, what has not been tested might not be scary.

Some lens purchases over the past couple years. (Sorry about the crappy image, as I had to borrow a digital camera from work and it's a Nikon Uncoolpix...)

Phil.
Nice collection. I have A* 300/4 that would look good with that group

Excuse the easy iPad photos.
My latest acquisitions are also gear porn. SPIIa, Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 55/1.8 and 135/3.5, Auto Takumar 35/3.5. Super clean glass in all and the camera seems to be working as designed.

I used to have this exact combo...but sold it. I wish I kept that lens now...I had the plastic hood too.

I have the plastic hood but usually use the metal one from the Takumar version of this lens. The clips on the plastic hood are a bit fragile!

Oh wow... That looks close and were it the case would be something my dad would not remember necessarily as Japanese. I for one have never heard of that camera. Reading about it though would make sense - my grandfather was very astute about US Naval and Airforce history. I sent a message to my dad to see if that rings a bell.

Double wow. Houston, we may have a winner. The brigh-work at the lens end seems to match as well.
01: Topcon Super D sn 7101582 with Re Auto Topcor 58mm 1:1.8 black lens sn 11682230 and sunhood
I just went and dug out this post. Was going back through old shots and stared at this Christmas photo again of the what-was-believed-to-be a Topcon Super D when y'all helped me out four years back. Looking again I do think it was a Topcon but now that I've looked at quite a few more shots of that camera, I don't think it was the Super D.

(I thought that one day since I first posted this that I'd be able to confirm in person when it was dug from storage, but this along with many of my grandad's nicer cameras seem to have utterly disappeared, unfortunately very likely sold by my aunt at some point in her "tidying" of my grandparent's home in the latter years they were with us.)

At any rate, I'm attaching the original photo here again - my gramps opening a Christmas present in early-mid-70s at their home while my grandmother looks on. I think I may have finally ID'd it as a Topcon IC-1 - can never be entirely sure, but was reasonably sure enough to snatch one at a good price on Ebay moments ago. Topcon IC-1 Auto - Camera-wiki.org - The free camera encyclopedia

(edit: particularly the rear battery door is what lead me this direction, a detail seen in the photo and missing from the Super D and many other Topcons I've looked at. Still can't be sure and honestly I'm not sure why I'm so obsessed with this. )

Finished up a K2 I'd been working on, which completes a goal of restoring a black body of each of 3 original K series models from "AS-IS/Parts only" bodies. Took about a year, learned a lot, but glad it's done. Have a lot respect for those who do or have done this for a living, it takes a special kind of talent and patience.

Thanks,
Cosmetically great, mechanically a challenge - KX & KM needed full CLA, seals, foam, a couple bad solder connections and replaced meter for the KX. But now the shutter speeds are good, meters are accurate and they both came with split focus screens and have pristine prisms - a rarity. The K2 was by far the easiest, other than new seals & foam, the pivots on the shutter blades required some gentle, careful cleaning to improve the 1/1000 & 1/500 shutter speeds which worked great. Meter is accurate and the ASA dial moved easily - my favorite of the trio.
