Seeing that Nikon F2 made me wonder how many news and photojournalism images posted from the late 1950's through about 1980 were taken with a Nikon F or F2.

My original 43mm FA was stolen outside of Paris last month.
I was saving up for an EPSON V800, but I just couldn't do without it.
Found this lovely silver MIJ on eBay and it was delivered today.
Looking forward to going outside in a bit!

Actually, black 35mm cameras were introduced in 1925, and had silver (nickel) lenses and knobs - the Leica model A. Black was standard until about 1933 when Leica introduced chrome plated bodies at a premium price. From the 1930s through the 1960s chrome was much more popular as it implied “quality” and held up better than black paint. Black Leicas became more popular in the 1970s when they introduced the black chrome finish, partly to be more durable than paint, and partly because the plating thickness was the same, making production of both simpler. Of course, then black commanded the premium price.
My Graflex 4x5 SLR from about the same time as the Leica A is also black

I picked up this OM-10 kit at what I think was a great price. $60 shipped. Everything seen here including bag. It will be a gift for my daughter-in-law who is a photographer. She uses an Olympus DSLR and is brand loyal and wants to try film.

Anyone have an image of the 46mm lens hood for the Auto-Tak 55mm/2.2? In this case, it is because I think it really needs a hood! I noticed a fair bit of flare when the sun was coming from the side. I guess the lack of SMC coating doesn't help.
Here you go.
The hood was two-piece, Series VII filters fit between the two parts.

The 55/2.2 Atuo-Takumar was the lens sold with the S1. The SV standard lens was the 55/1.8 Super-Tak.

I have three F bodies with eyelevel finders, two black and one chrome... and two F2 bodies also with eyelevel finders... a black one and a chrome one that I just had overhauled and picked up yesterday... and a stable of pre-ai Nikkors to go with them. Their images have a really nice look when used on my Df.

Nikon mix n match

1966 F and 1977 F2.

The DE-1 finder belongs to the F2, the Nikkor-S to the F. The F came with a Photomic Tn metered head.

Love the Nikon, classy, I have an ancient 'F' a very early one with the later FTn finder and I always enjoy shooting with it. Its got such massive bulk and feels perfect to me.

Here are my two newest........A black second version Minolta XD7 and a chrome late version. The black one was in an awful mess when I got it but she has been cleaned up, had new leatherettes applied and packed off to a tech for calibration - she needed a fair amount of work but I only paid £23 for her. She is sporting a PG 1.4 Lens which came with an SRT I acquired which was beyond repair but the lens is near mint. The chrome one came from a dealer and I way overpaid as she was supposed to be in great condition but she was a wreck. Rather than send her back for a refund I decided to save her. The list of faults was horrendous but she has cleaned up nice and is now on her first roll of film for testing. Here meter seems a little 'off' but it could just be natural variance between the two XDs. I am going to run a roll and see what happens and then she may go off for calibration depending on results.

I have a MC Rokkor PG 50/1.4, but unfortunately, it is less than pristine (front element scratch). Still, though, I should probably take it out and shoot it to see if it is that much better than the 58mm f/1.4. BTW, how do you like the MD Rokkor 50/1.7?

Hi Steve, I havent yet had any rolls developed from film where the MD 50 f1.7 has been used so I cant comment on its performance. The feel of the lens is quite good and it has a good snap to focus. In feel terms its a bit like a Pentax M series.
Internal construction is entirely plastic and the front and rear element groups are completely sealed so if you had fungus between the sealed groups you would be stuffed.

I had to take this one to bits as had super bad oil contamination but luckily only on the bits of the lenses that were accessible , it hadnt permeated into the semi sealed bits. I have seen this before as I have two of these lenses. They are easy enough to work on. I also have the later MD type with the aperture lock and its even more plastic and much more cheaply constructed. Havent shot that yet either.

If you ever regrease them they dont like much grease and it tends to migrate everywhere.

I have shot the PG 50 1.4 and the PF 58 1.4 and on film output theres not much to choose between them. The PG is maybe slightly sharper and has a better snap to focus but on film output its a tough to see much differenece but I havent shot a huge amount of film with either of them.

A friend of mine traded me this small kit. He has owned it since 1988 and said it has been all over the country and world with him. Its in beautiful shape. I replaced the battery and the meter came to life. It came with the 1:28 40mm lens. I had to chastise him though, when it showed up in the mail it had a Minolta neck strap on it. :-)

Here's a few of my Exaktas. First pic has a VXIIa (1957) with a Steinheil 55/1.9 and plain prism along with a Varex IIa (1957) with an Isco Westrocolor 50/1.9 and a Travemat metered prism. The second photo has a VXIIa (1961) with a Schneider Xenon 50/1.9 Metered Cell lens and a Jubilee Anniversary prism, along side a VX (1955) with a Meyer Primoplan 58/1.9. The Primoplan has a little haze but all the other lenses are clean. These 4 regularly see film and have good working shutters.

Do either of the metered prisms still work?

Yes, both do. I have the 50 and 135 ...the 135 is the Isco...both meters work...I've wanted a 35mm to complete the set but hard to come by at a price I'll pay. I've got probably 3 or 4 Travemats and maybe 6 Examats...most work. The Examats usually just need a cleaning...there's some power points and a variable resistor disk...I use a fiberglass brush to clean then...usually does the trick.

Oh...I wanted to add...for the most part the prism meters are poor...not bright and harder to focus ...especially the Travemats. Accuracy is maybe +- 1 stop...I can do just as well with sunny 16 rule on Tri-X.
