The new one slaps the Takumar silly in any way you can measure. Worth it, imo, yes. When you use the DFA for a while then go back to the older variant, you're wondering if there is a problem with it, the difference is that stark.
Which is why my contribution to a thread on the subject of "Most Overrated Lens" led to my response of, "Pretty much any Pentax 50mm f/1.4". I own an SMC Tak 50/1.4 and it has its strengths, but I have better fast 50s on my shelf. The D FA* 50/1.4 had not yet been released, so I am off the hook on that count.

Yes, the D FA* 50 is excellent, but what itch does it scratch? I currently own zero cameras that are fully able to exploit its strengths and very little need (itch) for a lens that does what it does as well as it does it.

I relate strongly to this and take them out with the WLF and 90 or 75/4.5 fairly regularly, although in the last couple years I'm more likely just to grab my Autocord if that's how I've chosen to shoot for the day - two more frames and lighter still. But it really can't be overstated how much weight the VF contribute on the 67, particular the metered ones, eh.

For me the DFA*50/1.4 was a true LBA purchase until I actually started developing RAW’s. I think I need to print and frame to get the most out of it, which is am entire new aspect to the hobby. Otherwise the IQ is sort of wasted.

Only conclusion I'm coming to is all the DFA*s are marmite to Pentaxia
BTW I do print my stuff too and monochrome has a good point - the DFA*s give extra layers of everything, tones, contrast, resolution..

It might help to remember that this thread is in the film slr subforum. While the DFA* is usable as manual focus in P, and Tv modes on cameras capable of body control of aperture and M mode on bodies supporting direct aperture control, it is not really a smooth match to most Pentax film SLRs.

My bad! Apologies all. Took in Gear Porn, not the exact location. Can understand the teeny bit of push back. I'll dig through some older Film era glass and replace. Apologies again.

I use that SMC Tak 50mm on my F-mount digital camera all the time for gear porn shots. I don't care that a sharper lens could be used. I think the Tak helps impart a sense of an older image to go with older gear.

Mine is a decent lens and performs nicely, but my Pentax-K 55/1.8 out performs it on all counts, unless one is picky about aperture shape and form factor.

And pentax land sometimes say silver is inferior to black. Not when it looks like this...

Does that LX 2000 suffer from the infamous 'Sticky Mirror Syndrome' ?

Since the LX was made in the year 2000 and my copy only has a few rolls of film run through it, not yet.

This newer LX is smoother running than my Eric CLAed later version black LX, so there is a possibility Pentax did some minor upgrade/fixes over time to improve the LX. It's the same with the 6x7/67, it had lots of minor upgrades over the years to fix known issues.

Ooh, very nice.

One thing I really like about the 'newer' LX-2000 is Pentax added a camera strap pin to the grip,
providing strap pins on both sides of the camera when the grip is attached.
I liked this feature so much, I found a LX grip w/pin for use on my 'older' LX, too.
