I just got my pentax full frame..

Dear Pentax friends!

I am so happy about my first pentax full frame camera that I decided to share this picture with you... (MZ-S)

It is not my first film camera (also owns a MF Voigtländer IIIw and Contax T3), but being able to use theses lenses on a small film camera is for me a real joy!
I just love shooting film and feel I might even resell my K5...

One question: are the APS-C lenses (like the 35mm macro) really too "small" for the MZ-S? Ever used APS-C lenses on full frame bodies?

Best Regards,

Olivier

For the 35mm Macro the answer is yes...

Many APS-C lenses cannot cover the full 35mm frame. A few can, such as the DA 40 Limited. But, in general these are the exceptions to the rule.

I have an MZ-S as well. It's a very nice camera, isn't it? I'd love to have a grip for mine!

Congrats! That's a beautiful camera! I have an MZ-S with the grip and it's a joy to use. I use my DA40 with it all the time and it works beautifully. I have heard that the DA55 will work on film cameras, also.

The consensus is that all Pentax primes greater than or equal to 40mm in length have acceptable results on FF.

There's a debate on the 560mm.

As I recall, no Pentax DA zoom has good performance on FF. I've never tried them.

The MZ-S is a wonderful camera. As other have said, some APS-C lenses cover the fame, some don't, but even with those that do you need to work around the lack of a aperture ring.

Nice camera. My love my MZ-S, it the family snapshot cam. Even though I own a grip, lately I've been using it grip-less and with my new FA43, it makes for a very compact package. The CR2 batteries are very cheap on ebay.

The 35 2.0 and 2.4 work fine, as does the 55 1.4. Some of the longer Tele Lenses work as well, but lose some corner sharpness. Also, if i'm not mistaken, the DA 40 is merely an update from the M40 years back(With better coatings, resulting in better photos)

Olimatt's MZ-S inspired me to show my own copy. Sorry for the rough photo, but I had to use a digital camera to capture my full-frame with its 43 limited, 77 limited, and Pentax-A 50mm f1.7 lenses.

One question again...

I have no idea how to "unplug" the battery grip... Any tip?

There's a button and lever on the grip (right next to each other), push that button and swing the lever to release the grip.

Here's my grip less MZ-s ninja-fied

Another question...!

Thank you for your replies

Yet another question...I have shot 2 rolls up to now with my mz-s. After shooting the last frame, the camera "rolls back" the film as expected.
Nevertheless the film is not completely rolled in (8-10cm are still out of the spool). Is it normal?! Am I placing the spool/film correctly ? Could somebody make a picture of a correctly placed film or send me a page out of the user manual? It would help a lot.

Best Regards,

Olivier
