SLR Ever-Ready cases

Hi all

I've just picked up a nice MX - lucky me - it looks like the SLR I always wanted!

However it doesn't have a case, so i started to look at ebay and got confused and disilusioned - MX cases look rare.

I've looked up the MX's dimensions on Bojidar Dimitrov's excellent site, it seems that it virtually the same size as the ME super etc, just 5mm longer.

Will the ERC case for the ME super etc fit the MX or do i need to find a dedicated MX case?

regards

Stephen

Pentax sold different cases for the MX and the other M bodies.
Some off-brand cases claim to fit both. Good luck!

Many of us old timers call them NEVER ready cases. I have not used one for at least 35 years, and never had a problem with the camera because of that. I have often bought and used wider camera straps, such as the Optex foam ones, but I don't want to have to flip and flop a case to run the camera.

With your MX, to change film with the case on, you have to
  1. Remove the camera from the tripod, if it is on one
  2. Remove the never ready case top
  3. Remove the tripod hold screw and the case bottom
  4. Rewind the film
  5. Open the camera back
  6. Remove the film
  7. Put in the new film and close the back
  8. Mount the case back on the camera with the tripod screw
  9. Attach the top of the case
  10. Remount the camera on the tripod
Steps 2, 3, 8 and 9 are added by the case.

An old ****'s opinion.

Some folks hate eveready cases with a passion.
I find them quite handy, and not a hindrance in any way.

Sell you the one that came with my ME Super, twenty bucks, not including P&H.

Well, almost. The MX case didn't have a tripod screw on the base (well, mine didn't) - it was held on by plastic clips that went around the strap lugs - and wore away at the coating on the body. This also means that you have to take the whole case off to use a tripod. I bought a CCS Cobrahead instead...

I have an ME Super with a Pentax leather "Ever Ready" case. I measured my camera and it is 5" from side to side and about 1 1/4" thick. Check the width and thickness of your MX - but I think it is a bit bigger. The leather case for the ME fits perfectly snug. If the camera body were even 1/4" wider it would not fit properly in this case. I lucked out and bought this as NOS (new old stock) off an Ebay seller a few years ago. It is a quality leather case lined with a velvet-like cloth. If I am taking it out for a stroll I remove the bulky nose piece and leave that at home. The leather section that wraps around the camera body protects it from minor bumps. Sadly, the case is probably worth as much as the old camera. Just kidding - I'll never part with my ME Super - I'll take it to the grave with me!

Thanks for all the useful comments folks

bearing in mind the criticism of the usefulness of ERC (I knew this of course!) I think I'll jest wait and see if something turns up - i certainly don't want to get into the business of international postage.

The spring sun is making the daffodils on York's city walls look particularly lovely, so I think I might just go and run a film through the MX

thanks again
