Hi!

Does anyone know anything about the idea behind the so called store demonstrator that was produced? How many bodies approx and if it came in black and/or chrome?

And finally, what on earth could something like that be worth?

I see one just sold on eBay for $100. Interesting how something so "rare" can be had so cheaply.

Thanks! But not a whole lot of info on Steves site. I wounder where to find even more info.
And what is "rare"? I found another site, stating that less than 1000 were made, making it even more rare than the Asahi Pentax S.

It has been 5 years and precious little more is known about this oddity. I have stumbled across a black one and didn’t hesitate. It definite seems to be rarer than the ‘S’ and I got a black one too 😀

Where did you find a black version? I have a chrome one, and cannot see that a lot of these have poped up on ebay.

& black version was found on eBay in the USA. As I said I didn’t hesitate so it’s duration on auction was very short. I will post pics when it arrives. I am very excited asbetween this and the SB2 I suspect I have some of the rarest old pentax’s Ever made

I am yet to acquire Pentar asahiflex etc but someday? 😀

Pretty camera! I’d be happy just to have an S and a couple more period lenses. Since I found my van Oosten I’ve been more or less sated. For now I’ve enjoyed buying cameras + accessories from the people who actually used them to write the history (most on PF).

Just today I rec’d a Forum PM response on a FA-1W. He said he didn’t need my address because he just shipped me the K18/3.5 I won on eBay. Pentax is a small community.

A black H2 store demonstrator sold on eBay today ~AU$450 with Serial # 220413 (user condition - not the best with bad curtain)

Two months, prior a black H2 store demonstrator sold for about the same as above with serial #238221 (collector condition - but needs service to repair curtain) HANG ON that is the same as the one above well done @Baard-Einar

I bought one about 4 months ago in collector condition - working too - with serial # 220930

So, that is three black 'store demonstrators' from the most recent auctions. I might try and keep a tab on this and record serials so we can get an idea on how many there are.
