BTW , your camera is not 40 years . K1000 was introduced in 1976 . The older model having "ASAHI " mark . After 15 years or so , K1000 was made in Hong Kong , Taiwain , China . The "ASAHI " mark was removed . Top and bottom was replaced with plastic as some other parts . However some people still having the Non-Japanese models with all metal parts ! It's hard to know what is what but K1000 is a good camera regardless where it was from !

My "new" K1000 arrived yesterday. I got some film and played with it and the 43Ltd this afternoon. I'm planning on taking the first roll to be developed tomorrow and I'm looking forward to seeing the results (at least the ones that I shot after I figured out how to use the thing). I will say that I wish the k10 was as easy to use as this body is.

Now I need to get a scanner that will scan the film and slides.

Tran, Your right. I was under the impression that it was made in the 60's. My mistake. I do have two of them now. One has Black and white film and the other color.

I Got this K1000 when my father past away and tried to use it once and everything came out blurry. My fault cause I didn't know how to use it. I am going to school for Photography and decieded to pull it out of the closet. I am learning to use it now and am so happy that I get a chance to use my dads camera. Cant wait to start taking Great Pictures.

I just upgraded my pentax K100D to a K10D and sent the K100D to my mom to let her use it until she can get a dSLR of her own.

So, she goes and pulls an "empty" camera case out of the closet so she can carry around the K100D, and she discovers a K1000 that my uncle purchased in 1973!

She's sending it to me tomorrow morning

Nice find, but someone must not have read this whole thread. Read post #16 above.

No, read the whole thread, but had the 73 number fixed in my head and didn't think about it. Once I noticed, I realized that my mom probably meant a different number, and I'll update once I know what it actually is.

Nice stories of the K1000. My uncle learned photography using one of those. I got one few years later and I had one till recently. Very nice and long lasting cameras.
