Flea market MX

A nice bargain for €10. Very nice Pentax. It is still possible to get them for a reasonable price.

Nice find indeed!

Just wondering about that strap... anyone know if it's an original one made by Pentax and which cameras they might have come with; the MX?

Fantastic find, and the case looks good for it's age, although I spot the beginning of cracks. I bought my MX in 1976 and over time the "painted" surface coating over the "leather" started to crack and turn white. It looked awful, and the crumbling "paint" was getting all over. The case itself was in perfect structural condition. What to do? I bit the bullet and went to work with sand paper and scrubbed the surface coating off. The result is a functional case again, and the look is like suede leather. Certainly the look is better than before. Thought you might be interested for the future.

You got the case and the leather strap?! The survival rate on the cases is pretty poor and the leather straps are rare.

How does the camera work?

The camera and lens works very well. No issue at all. The lens is like new.

The MX-era cases are pretty poor compared to the SV-Spotmatic era that used much better leather.
I don't think I've found an MX with a leather strap. I thought they all came with a fiber strap.

This leather strap is in a very good condition. I belive it is a genuine Pentax accessory. If it came with the MX back in the 70s, I do not know.

grey metal top?

Seeing these photos reminded me of this question: Did Pentax make some MX tops out of something other than brass? I've got two, both well worn. One has obvious brass showing where the paint is worn away, the other has what looks like grey metal, much like this camera. Were they chrome tops repainted black? Titanium? A mystery to me.
