Pentax SP500 battery cover replacement options

I recently bought a Pentax SP500 kit off of eBay in minty mint condition except for one feature. The original battery leaked and corroded the battery cover. Someone before me unsuccessfully tried to remove the cover and the result is an almost-stripped coin slot. I was able to remove the cover without having the coin bounce out. Hooray!

I would like to replace the battery cover with something that looks decent. Can I use battery covers off of other Pentax models? For example, I see some covers for ME Supers and K1000s on eBay. Would those work?

Hi,
I just checked by taking a battery cover from an ME and it did not fit the Spotmatic as it was larger.

Thanks for checking this out! Now I know not to get a ME battery cover even if it's a bargain buy.

I think there is a fortune to be made in Spotmatic battery covers. Those from newer cameras don't work and most of the originals have stripped coin slots.
