The ME Super uses widely available batteries, there is really no excuse for not having a couple of spares in the bag, they are tiny - not like it's a lot of weight or anything.

It's a wonderful little camera and very enjoyable to use.

One could always use an SV or H3 and "sunny 16" and use no batteries.

Yes you are right and I agree with you completely. Yet on a psychiatric level, I am compulsive about not being dependent. We're not talking about facts, but about mental sanity

Compared to the ME Super, the MX has a slightly better viewfinder and interchangeable screens (there are split screens available for MX, but not for ME Super). As all my lenses are non-AF, and I painfully miss shots because of the bad focus, that is a tie breaker.

All ME-series cameras came standard with split screens with microprism collar.

The only problem with the A76 (or equivalent) batteries is that they're so damn small you might lose 'em...even if they are still in the packet. But they're easy to find, and cheap (but don't get the Kodak ones. Those crapped out on me after three months.)

With semi-regular shooting, I kid ye not, good Duracell or Energiser A76 batteries will last a year. There are the "twin" versions, with are 3 volt batteries that have the same height as two stack A76s, often labelled as "276" or something. These do not last nearly as long, I've found.

They ME Super's up there as one of my favourites.

Just got myself a very, very nice LX.

Geeze Louise. I almost feel guilty just holding this thing.

Reminds me of the old 19th century lever-action winchester rifles that I've rebuilt and restored: metal on metal, precisely machined, fitted, and meshing perfectly.

Wow...sorry, I"m a little out of control here...

Man, I don't know which one to ask about. If you work it right, you can get your hands on an LX. Not many people get to hold even a pre '64 Winchester much less the REAL thing from the 1800's.

IMO the LX is a marvellous piece of photographic engineering. Everything on it just feels right and supremely well-built. If I had to choose just one camera to keep then this would (most likely) be it.

But I must admit that it would be a tough process to decide between the LX and OM 1 that my partner bought for me

So..

Should I post pics of my rebuilt Winchester Model 1873 in .32 WCF, manufactured in the 1890's?

The outside is beat, but I've rebuilt her on the inside and she's a smooth as butter.

Sort of like my LX....

Every Man Should have a Rifle

So I sit and write and ponder, while the house is deaf and dumb,
Seeing visions "over yonder" of the war I know must come.
In the corner - not a vision - but a sign for coming days
Stand a box of ammunition and a rifle in green baize.
And in this, the living present, let the word go through the land,
Every tradesman, clerk and peasant should have these two things at hand.

No - no ranting song is needed, and no meeting, flag or fuss -
In the future, still unheeded, shall the spirit come to us!
Without feathers, drum or riot on the day that is to be,
We shall march down, very quiet, to our stations by the sea.
While the bitter parties stifle every voice that warns of war,
Every man should own a rifle and have cartridges in store!

Henry Lawson, 1867-1922
Australian Poet
