Favorite?

Not yet,.... but with my new Spotmatic F and the "stovepipe" (vivitar 70-210 first version) attached, I went down to the beach (Kenai, AK), couple of nights ago (11:00pm) to watch the sun go down over Cook Inlet and the Alaska Range Mts.. I gained a new appreciation for Big and steady. With a stray roll of Kodak 800 and high sutter speeds, in a brisk wind, hand held, it was a joy to fire away! Film is at the processers and I intend to pick up the pics today. We'll see.

Geeze Louise. I almost feel guilty just holding this thing.

Reminds me of the old 19th century lever-action winchester rifles that I've rebuilt and restored: metal on metal, precisely machined, fitted, and meshing perfectly.

Wow...sorry, I"m a little out of control here...
Only rifle I ever had was alever Winchester. I can relate. never ever shot anything but loved that mechanism.

i love the Pentax concept ..but Mamiya,Chinon,Fujica had better M42 bodies. Chinon and Ricoh were more creative with basic K muunt

a) Die-hard socialist (hence the revolutionary overtones to that poem stevebrot posted.)

b) Utter p!sshead.

Therefore, Aussie as all get-out. Oh, and poet, writer, occasional vagrant.

They found his Remington - think it was a Remington - in a piano up in Tenterfield. I think. It was on the local news here when I was a kid. I dunno if it had his name engraved in it ("IF FOUND, PLEASE RETURN TO") or something. I dunno if the story was ever refuted, but it seems quaint.

I mean, I can well imagine him, shitfaced, having accidentally shot up a pub while drunk, cramming it into the piano before the cops came. You know, fair enough.

Lawson's drunkeness is what keeps him more in the background, behind Banjo Paterson, as well as his Marxist leanings. Still, I tend to like Banjo a bit more.

Thank you for the poem. It fits today.

Yes, I am not a gun guy, but it struck a chord of resonance with me as well. I guess that makes Lawson a good poet.

I have many Pentax cameras; Spotmatic, Spotmatic F, KX, KM, ME, ME Super, MG, MX, Super Program Program Plus, SF-1n, ZX-10 and a ZX-5n and a few Konicas and Ricohs. I picked up a lot of these at garage and estate sales. But my favorites of all are the (I can see the virtual bricks being thrown at me...) are the P3, P3n and P5.

Sure, they don't get the love many other models get but what I like about this line is how they feel in my hands. They are smaller than the older Pentax cameras, larger than the M series, and they weigh in between all of them. Kind of like Goldilockis finding the right bed, these cameras feel "just right" in my hands.
I can't claim to have handled several models of camera, least of all several Pentaxes ("Pentaces"?). However, in '96 or so I bought a P3, with a Takumar 135mm f/4.5 (maybe f/3.5), and it Just Worked. I've used it variably over these 13 years, and find it fits what I want to do in most cases. Maybe, after a bit longer into this renewed shutterbuggery of mine, I'll tire of its manual nature; but having used some automatic gear (a Minolta film and a D40), I'm not convinced I won't want something that costs too pretty a penny. By that I mean that the Minolta felt okay but had some issues focusing and ergonomically; and the UI on most of the DSLRs in my price range seem clumsy at best, with actual *dials* for direct control manipulation usably available only on higher-end rigs.

Cheers,

Daniel

Got the 800 film from the Spotmatic and "Stovepipe" back from processing. Seriously grainy as expected but the equipment did it's job!

Pentax: H3v and Black Spotmatic.

Other 35mm: M2 with 35mm "bug-eye" Summicron, not the contrastiest optic to come from Leitz, but a great people lens.

Hi folks,
Just wanted to post some pictures I made with my new to me ME-F and Tokina 17mm lens. I love this combo. Reminds me of my 10-20mm Sigma on my DSLR's.

Film used was 99 cents film.

My son Jumping

Venice beach canals.
These pictures are truly great

What do you mean "old"

My Spotmatic F surfaced while cleaning out my stack-of-stuff and I thought I would fire the old girl up. (sold the old pick-up, not many old girls fire up for me any more)

Knew the proper batteries were not available so went on an expedition to the local camera store where all the new <strike>crap</strike> plastic is available but not much that is good. "Air cells not available in 625, we'll get you some if you want a case, not much call for these." Alkaline a poor substitute.

If I have to carry the Gossen then I would rather carry the SV. Hate to see the F on the shelf with my VPKs.

Anyone need a good chrome Spot F?

I use hearing aid batteries and an o-ring for spacer in my Spot F. If you want to sell it, put it in the market place.
