I hate waiting for new toys to arrive. I make a practice of reading the camera manual once or twice while waiting for them to arrive. If you don't have the K1000 manual, here it is: http://www.lensinc.net/manuals/Pentax_K1000L.pdf
The wait is excruciatingespecially for us "foreigners"...of course I already read the manual and I already ordered some lenses, that ironically arrived before the camera:

PENTAX VIVITAR 75-205 f3.8 Zoom K MOUNT LENS Will fit some PENTAX Digital | eBay

PENTAX M Series 2X Teleconverter. Will fit some PENTAX Digital Cameras | eBay

I heard that the Vivitar zoom is pretty good and I got it for cheap, along with the converter.

You always need another Pentax. The KX and K2 receive quite a bit of love around here. I've owned every K-series body and the only one I sold was the K2, but I would never sell my K2 DMD. Of all the K-series bodies you'll find your own favorite, but mine have always been the K1000 and the K2 DMD.
Just now I lost a slick black KX for 1.2$

I vindicated the loss of the kx winning this auction:

Asahi Pentax MX Camera with Macro Pentax M Zoom lens f 2.8, 40-80 mm etc | eBay

it's not a k camera but I heard it's nevertheless good...isn't it?

A KX that was shrunk in the wash...and lost it's mirror lockup.

The 40-80 is not a well loved lens. I have one but I haven't used it yet.

While I enjoy using my K-series bodies, the MX is my all-time favorite Pentax SLR, and the camera I reach for more than any other.

Plus one on that. I finally acquired a lovely LX, and while I appreciate it's beauty and features, I love the rugged and reliable MX as the ultimate, strictly manual, SLR.

I owned a K-1000, and I wouldn't own another. The ME Super is a much, much better camera. For one, the meter actually works all the time, and the battery for the meter doesn't run down from light getting in through the viewfinder. When the K1000's battery begins to die, the meter doesn't swing as far to the extremes. So it looks like you're one stop under or over exposed, when in reality you're three or four stops. It's just miserably inaccurate, and there's no way to test for a dead battery. The camera seems to go through them like candy too. The K-1000's focusing screen sucks -- no split prism, which makes it difficult to focus accurately. No self-timer either.

The ME Super has the same heft, the same feel, with a better, bigger, brighter viewfinder, a split prism to make focusing easy, a lock to keep from accidentally firing the shutter when the camera is in a bag, an auto exposure mode, and exposure compensation. Oh and a flash sync port and provisions for an auto-winder. The ME Super is also a lot cheaper, because it doesn't have the cult status of the K1000. It's a better camera for your money.

It also requires a battery to operate. The K1000 can shoot using Sunny 16 if the battery is dead.

The K1000 is a stripped down KM. No self timer or depth of focus preview. Is it ignorance that makes the K1000 more desirable?

Don't get me wrong, I am not criticizing the K1000, it is a sold and reliable camera, I went out of my way to add a K1000 to my K collection which includes the KM and KX. The K2 has eluded me so far.

I guess if you must have a K1000 I would go with the SE model, as it has the split-image focusing screen and a better ASA range.

I lost out on a M42 Vivtar 28/2 the other day. Well tonight I won a PK Vivitar 28/2 along with a Vivitar 28-85/3.5-4.5.
