How did my niece do?

My Niece who is studying to be a photo journalist just e-mailed me this auction she just won...she is very interested in medium format film (right now) and I was wondering how she did with this purchase.

It's a Pentax! Of course she got value!

I don't really know what this camera is worth but it seems like a good value. Best of luck with her for that career.

Price is not bad for ebay. Now, does she realize that the 75mm is more like a 35mm lens on a 35mm camera? IIRC, the 105/2.8 is the "normal" lens for this body.

I think that was more or less a bargain.
I hope the camera will serve happily for many years to come!

That there is pretty good bargaining. Beautiful camera. One of these was in the movie Shutter, used at the wedding.

Thanks all, I was really hoping she wasn't taken...although she's really sharp, I'm kinda protective.

Yeah, not bad at all.

To get one with the TTL prism is a good idea, if she does not have a handheld meter or use something like Sunny 16, it should help her out a lot.

Also, like many have said, the lens is a bit on the wide standard side, but 35mm is by no means limiting, in fact, now she can work with the greats (Cartier Bresson, anyone??) in there preferred focal length (Wide enough for the scene, close enough for intimacy).

She may want to augment that lens with a faster normal and a short tele for range, but both of those are cheap in comparison to the lens she has now, and easy to pick up used. However, for daylight outdoor work, her kit does seem very nice.

Well done indeed.

Sad somehow. I paid $2200 for mine with a 105mm and grip back when these were still new. That was a deal then as well. This is downright cheap. I hope she understands how big and heavy this camera is (about double the size of a K10D). It also doesn't have a meter in this model. She can get the metered prism or use a handheld meter with this version.

Here's some details on the camera(s). Still one of the best medium format cameras around.

Good deal.

I bought my 6x7 with ML and a pretty rough, but good glass, 90mm LS lens and the meter prism for $1100.00 in 2002.
