Help with auto-winder in SF1 - seems broken

Hello all,

I'm new to the film photography world and these forums and just discovered my grandpa's old SF1 hidden in a relatives garage. I've been using my father's Z-70 recently and went to load a roll into the SF1 and... it won't wind.

The motor seems not to be turning the mechanism despite the grinding sound coming from it and slight movement initially. Is there a trick to this model I'm missing or is it quite possible the mechanism is just broken and is desiring attention?

Thanks to all in advance, even if I don't get it working I scored a sweet 35-70mm Pentax lens for my Z-70.
