SP1000 manufacturing

I have been looking for a SP1000 and noticed that every one I find seems to be made/assembled in Hong Kong. Were all SP1000's assembled in Hong Kong or were some put together in Japan? I read that body manufacturing was slowly moved away from Japan to lower labor cost countries. Was the SP1000 the first body to follow this trend?

Both of my SP1000's are made in Japan. Also Japan made are my SP F, SP II, and SP 500.

It was the mid production K1000s that were assembled in HK and then made in China.

I think all the Sotmatics were made in Japan.

That was my understanding as well.

What has caused you to come to that conclusion? They were not sold in Japan (made for export only), but I had never heard they were not made there.

Oh...I just found several photos where the bottom plate says assembled in Hong Kong. I also found several active auctions where the bottom plate says nothing and on one the camera still has the JCII sticker. I also found one where the bottom plate says assembled in Japan.
