Start with Pentax? Or switch to Pentax

I am just curious if you guys started with Pentax, or switched from another brand.

Personally, I had always shot canon. I am not on Pentax for the better ISO and DR, and the better build quality than Nikon IMO.

Is this just digital or do we consider film as well? My first DSLR was a Pentax but I had a number of SLR's over the years.

both. I started on film with canon.

If you started with minolta, I guess you can vote for sony too since they bought out minolta for the lens tech.

Well, actually I started with a Praktica LTL, but then switched to Pentax, influenced by my father's use of the ancient AsahiFlex. I now am fully committed - some would say I should be committed! - with Pentax K1000, ME Super, MX, LX, 645n, K 10, K 5 and other brands - Voigtlander Vitessa, Retina IIIc, Zeiss Ikon Contessa, Olympus OM 4, Komaflex S .......

Started with a Nikon FM2 then waited for digital to be good enough and grabbed a Pentax K-r after comparing IQ with all other brands at that price point. Then quickly went to a K-5IIs. Handling the K-5 IIs is as tactilely enjoyable as the FM2 was.

I started with a Canon DSLR, but only because it was gifted to me. Switched to Pentax after doing my own research.

Long ago in the film days, I started with Leica then went with Minolta for my SLR system. My first digital camera was a Fujifilm P&S. I went to Pentax with my first DSLR.

Discounting my first camera a Kodak Instamatic, my first SLR was a Pentax KX purchased in late 1975.

I have continued on with Pentax 35mm & 6x7 film bodies. (I do not shoot any digital)

Phil.

Praktica LTL was my first SLR in the 70's. Later on it was replaced by a Pentax KM.

I started out with Praktika LB and later came to Pentax ME. had a flirt with Minolta when they introduced AF, but after that: Pentax K20D, K5 and now K5IIs!

Started with Praktica, had a series of Sony P&S over the years, went to the Sony NEX-5R as my first MILC, then added a Pentax K-30, then a Q, then a NEX-6. Each has its advantages and disadvantages for me, so I use them all at different times.

I started with Pentax and every opportunity I'm reminded by every industry expert that it was the biggest mistake I could have made. Especially since forever.

Staying with Pentax just proves I can't learn from my mistakes. To try to make the most of the hopeless situation (self-inflicted, mind you), I clean and lubricate the O-rings on the mounts of my lenses with my tears.
