Issue with my MX?

I got a roll back recently and noticed that one some shots I had this cloud across the middle of the shot and others, not (2nd Photo)

Is this a problem with my camera or my technique?

Unfortunately I cannnot answer your question since my MX is in the mail but I have a question, 2 actually. Are you on a boat and what film is this?

It appears the timing of the shutter curtains needs adjustment.
If so the size of the darkened area should change with the shutter speed set.

This is not an uncommon problem with a 35-year-old cloth focal plane shutter.
Eric Hendrickson http://www.pentaxs.com can fix it right up for you.

Yeah, it makes sense that i would have a fast shutter speed here because of the amount of light. So, I'm guessing that slower shutter speeds are good, which is why most of my rolls don't show this problem. It showed up on about 4 shots over 2 rolls. I had it serviced locally this year, I'll have them check it out again. Thanks for the advice,

kxjiru, I was on a ferry boat coming back to Seattle from Bremerton, WA. The film is just some Kodak 400 speed from my local drug store. Don't remember beyond that. I haven't experimented with other films.

Chris is correct. The shutter curtains are moving at different speeds during the second half of the exposure.

Thanks, guys. I'll take camera and these photos into the shop that serviced it.

I have seen remarkably similar striations on Ektar 100 but with a LEAF shutter on a Nettar.

I put my problem down to developing maybe a wrinkle in the spiral where the fixer was evenly restricted from top to bottom.

So I suggest Troikia could give the MX an good exercise with no film in, say 20 exposures at each shutter speed.

Then run another test roll.

Or he/she can simply have the shop that serviced the camera confirm that they did their work properly at no additional expense. I suspect the leading curtain is binding towards the end of its run.

Said shop is a good local camera tech shop. I'm sure they'll take care of it. I'll fall by this weekend with the camera and shots.

Thanks all for your advice.
