Spotmatic and assorted lens

My friend has a spotmatic with film, SMC Macro Takumar 50mm 4, SMC 135mm 3.5, SMC 28mm 3.5 and super Takumar 55mm 1.8. She has all the lens cases and the front and rear caps. Any suggestions on a fair price to buy from her. I probably won't use the Spotmatic but I have the m42 adapter ring and was playing with the 50mm macro yesterday. I had fun with the fully manaul approach. Any thoughts on a fair value. I haven't looked at the lens real close yet but I don't think there are any issues. Also what would you use to clean the outside of the camera and lens to make them look nicer.
Adam I put this here but nor sure if there is a better location.
Thanks.

Those are decent lenses. As for fair price, our own Marketplace and eBay provide good indicators of the market value. Market value is also determined by local demand and interest.

I'll let you know what I paid recently or have seen locally (Canadian $):

- SMC Macro Tak 50/4: I bought a very nice, clean copy for $50 at a commercial camera shop (in their 'used' section). Both caps, no case/hood. I was very happy with the asking price.
- SMC 135/3.5: One was listed locally for $35 (snapped up quickly); another pristine copy with lens hood, case, and caps is listed for $75. I didn't buy either, but have been tempted on the current listing. I'd probably offer $50-60 since it has been on the market for a couple of months.
- SMC 28/3.5: haven't seen any locally.
- ST 55/1.8: I saw one recently in a local thrift/charity store on a ratty Ricoh camera, $30. I passed (I have another Tak 55/1.8)

The Macro is probably the most valuable one (+ $100), followed by the 28 3.5. The 135 and the 55 can be found for cheap. To me (humble opinion) a fair price would be $220-$260.

The macro goes for 75-150 depending on the condition (caps/case/etc); the 28/3.5 goes for about 50-75
The other lenses can probably be bought for 30-50 a piece
So a fair price of the package will be in the order of $250.
Also consider using the spotamtic, it is a great camera. It will need a CLA from Eric though

Everything depends on condition. Of the lenses you listed:
  • SMC 28/3.5 great lens. I paid $75 for mine in EX+ condition
  • SMC 135/3.5 $30-$55 for good or better condition
  • SMC 55/1.8 great lens. I paid $40 for my ST version in EX condition. The SMC is worth another $15 more.
  • SMC 50/4 Macro $50-$100 depending on condition
  • Spotmatic body $25-$50 depending on condition. CLA'd in shop with 90 warranty, these sell for $150 here in Portland.
As you can see, pricing is variable depending on condition and buyer and seller. The cases and caps are a definite value addition.

$250 USD for the package would be a good estimate from my perspective, though I would not expect any profit to be made by flipping all or any.

I'd say $250 is on the high side. I'd only pay that much only if all was truly pristine.

The Spotmatic is wonderful camera, assuming you don't mind stop-down metering.
If you plan to use it do yourself a favor and send it to Eric Hendrickson for CLA.

There was a black Spotmatic with a 50/4 listed on my local Craigslist for several months at $100. It didn't sell till the price was lowered to $50. I passed it up because I already have a 1:1 50mm macro. My Super-Multi-Coated 135/3.5 was $15.50 on eBay. I paid $42 for a S-M-C Takumar 35/3.5 from the same seller, I probably would have paid around the same for the 28. The Spotmatic and 55/1.8 are probably worth around $30 as a pair.

thanks chris and boris....definitely a range based on where you are...I want the 50, 28 and 135...really don't want the spotmatic or the 55...I also have 11 roles of expired color film...different speeds...so it sounds like 150 tops??

Well... the person said you could have it (for free?)
So it is up to you to decide what is fair for the kit. Do not expect to get much from the resale

I guess that if you tell her/him you will take the camera and give him/her a gift card (on the amount you think is fair) will be a way to make both of you happy

You might change your mind regarding the ST 55/1.8.
